ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Odd noise, possibly a bearing

I've been hearing an odd noise. It kind of sounds like when you downshift an automatic into third. But my revs are normal.
I've noticed I can always hear it at 30 mph. My car will also shift about then. My top shift solenoid is leaking, but that's because I took it off to see if I should clean it. I have a small amount of oil remaining in my spark plug wells, but I don't think that's it. It could be an improperly adjusted valve, so I'll check them again in the morning.
Because of the 30 mph, I think it's a bearing. But it doesn't have the same characteristics of the last bearing that went bad.

    Any other ideas?
    MRT
37.5 MPG, AC on, cruising at 80.
30.0 MPG, AC on, aggressively driving around 90.
27.5 MPG, no AC, cruising at 90 with occasional gridlock. 40 degrees Fahrenheit

Lots of DIY videos specifically for our car

Honestly from the sound it definitely is pointing in the direction of a possibly bad wheel bearing, it certainly wouldn't harm anything if you just looked into that a little more. I drive a standard and when my wheel bearing went bad as soon as I pressed the clutch in at highway speeds I could hear the sound. It kind of sounded like a down shift but not as loud or strong, still sounded like one though.

I'm thinking it definitely a bearing.
I downshifted, the rpms jumped about 500, and the noise stayed the same. To me, that rules out the engine and the trans.

Just got back from the mechanic. He said it wasn't broken enough to tell what's wrong with it.
A slight "tone" from front drivers side, but not a grinding. So it wasn't enough to make a call. I guess I have to wait for it to get worse before I can fix it

well a way for you to check is to just jack up the front of your car until your tire is off the ground. then put your hands on top and bottom of the tire and move it back and forth. if you feel any play whatsoever the bearing is going bad and needs to be replaced.

That method could also point to a bad upper or lower ball joint as well. However with a bad ball joint you can actually see them moving while you push and pull the tire. If it was the bearing the ball joints would obviously not move...
