    Front rotor-over-hub conversion

This is the common "rotor-over-hub" conversion listing of parts for our 90-93 Accords.

98-99 Acura 2.3CL front hub assemblies
    90-93 Accord wheel bearing assemblies
98-02 Accord or 98-99 Acura 2.3CL front rotors
90-93 Accord pads (for Akebono or Nissin front calipers)
    retain stock caliper

Now, there was speculation on www.accordinglydone.com on this large thread they had dedicated to this and the 11.2" front brake upgrade. Anyhow, just to clarify things, the 1998-2002 Accord front hub assemblies will NOT work for this conversion. I ordered these 98-02 Accord front hubs, thinking it was a cheaper alternative to the 98-99 Acura 2.3CL front hubs to see if they would work. Well, I ended up ordering the 98-99 Acura 2.3CL hubs and now have them side by side.

The differences and why the 98-99 Acura 2.3CL hubs work:

    - both have same bolt pattern
    - both have same hub flange outer-diameter
    - both have same set screw hole pattern
    - both appear to have same spline count & pattern from outside of hub, looking in

    - differences lie in the turned shaft that is pressed into the wheel bearing

    98-99 Acura 2.3CL hub:
    - inner spline side is wider
    - turned shaft outer-diameter is 1 15/16"
    - turned shaft length is 1 5/8"

    98-02 Accord hub:
    - inner spline side is not as wide
    - turned shaft outer-diameter is 2 1/16"
    - turned shaft length is 1 9/16"

    * If I get time, I'll take a few comparison pics. *

i wanna do this is that all you think it will take (im gonna be doing it on a 5th gen but with the suspensions being so similar it shouldnt matter) a DIY would be amazing too, im actually very surprised more people havent done this

I will be doing my conversion soon as well, once I receive the EBC rotors and Hawk HPS pads. I have the Acura hubs and Accord wheel bearings already. Sorry I did not take comparison pics yet, it was really late the night I typed this thread up and I had to go into work at 6 am.

Anyhow, yes I thought and knew about the VTEC prelude upgrade to 11" rotors, but I price that all out and it was like $400-500 to do it right. I realized that my new stock brakes on the 90 EX I was driving at the time (I installed new stock rotors, pads, reman. calipers) brake great...however, they are stock and won't hold to constant hard braking and brake fade will occur. So I decided the stock setup is fine, I just need to get more heat resistant and better heat dissipating material. If I'm not happy with these rotors, then I can always change them...go with Powerslot or some Brembo parts. Now that rotor changes will be easier

My apologies for no photos after the install...

Where were you a couple of weeks ago! I concur on the parts being different, I just encountered the same thing. As measured with a micrometer, the hub isn't even close to fitting in the Accord wheel bearing.

I am doing the Prelude VTEC front brake swap, as well as a rear disk swap using the 94-97 suspension from a coupe. I will try to take pictures and document both operations if possible.

Yes exactly! Might as well upgrade to bigger rotors and calipers if you're gonna do all this work. I highly recomment this mod.

If you can find em at a junkyard- you can get the complete Knuckle(or Spindle) assembly for like $75 each.

I just got mine at Yale's in Connecticut for that price- and they were from an Acura 2.3 CL. I prolly shoulda swapped my ball joints at the same time, but didn't give it much thought. I think my original ones in the Accord knuckles were tighter.

                        Good Luck

Careful where when you get them from a junkyard. Obviously check for rust and bent parts. I ordered mine online from a junkyard in Arkansas and I got some rusted out knuckles. Luckily the hub was fine, but the wheel bearings were totally shot. I ended up paying 120 shipped I think for both and throwing most of it away!

Buy it new, you'll feel better about it.

Ok folks, upon looking at tons of info of brakes, and remembering the headaches i got just trying to find out one bit of information, i have created this thread....hopefully for simplicity.

this is how it's going to work. I want you people that have done brake upgrades (rotor over hub, larger rotors, better calipers, etc.) to post DESCRIPTIVELY what you have. Part numbers would be awesome.

As replies come in, I will keep this thread as clean as possible, and hopefully it will become a very good reference.
