    Rust repair question.

I am currently doing rust repair on my Accord and was wondering what people have done about the inner quarter panel? I was thinking about fabricating my own panels and gluing them to what is left of the old ones. Any tips on what I could do?

First cut your outer panel back enough to see the extent of the rust. Then, if the inner structure is rusted also, I see no reason you couldn't cut inner structure from a donor car just like you could get the outer skin.

I wish I could find a donor car to be able to cut out the inner quarters. All the cars at the junkyard are rusted about as bad as mine are and any cars that have a solid body, are expensive around here.

I spoke to my teacher today and he told me to cut out any rust I can, this will leave about 40% of the lip on the inner quarter. The entire dog leg is cut out, inner and outer, and I can fit my hand in the rocker panel.... He said once that is cut out, I can use that 40% of the lip to hold the outer quarter and glue it on. Then make a few panels that will make the inner quarter and fill any gaps with foam.

I don't really like the foam idea, but I really don't know what else I can do with them.

Have any pictures of your rusted areas (I think many of us have a good idea of what they look like)? The link below may give you an idea of what you're facing. Fabricating these pieces could be tricky. I would recommend searching for parts from the south. I got lucky and found my donor car in northern Kentucky.

I'm doing it in school so to take pictures I need to sneak around. I will try to get some tomorrow though. My rocker panel rot is about as bad as the link you posted but the quarter's weren't to bad.

As for searching for a car from the south, that won't be easy. I am only 16 and have no license. My only money is coming in from bagging groceries.... Not much haha I am going to have to sit for hours and make some patches, or I can have Metal Fabrication make me a few? Might have to check that out.

That's the only pic I have of the car.

Everything I cut out is outlined in red

You better have someone take a look at that left rear tire, it has a bubble in the side wall - not good.

That tire was already changed. Only paid to $165 for 2 tires and they were mounted and balanced for free.

That rescuing Ruby thread is good. I wish I could find a donor car to take that much of the quarter panel off of! I went to the junkyard and every single car had worst rust compared to mine! Also I can't afford to pay $1000 to have a junk car brought to me from the south.

Take pictures of the inner rust. I live in Texas and may be able to help you out.

I found out that most of the right(passenger side) is salvageable. I am using that sides old outer quarter to remake the inner quarter for the other side and then using fiberglass to make the rest of it. Here are some pics of the progress.

And this is just a pic of the new exhaust

I think it is coming along just great. I am going to make my own panels for the rocker panels as well. That shouldn't be hard at all.

How's your quarter panel rust repair coming? If we have a competition to see who finishes first, maybe we'll both do it quicker!

i strongly recommend you buy POR15. Apply this on the inner wheel well before you even start or finish the rust repair.I also recommend getting a new patch panel and go from there. it saves you time and money cause its all one piece.

He has the outer patch panels. His problem is with fabricating parts for the inner wheel housing and rocker that aren't included with the outer panel.
