Removed Corrosion caused by Wheel Weights

Cleaning up the new sedan. The condition of the factory 12 spokes wasn't too bad, but there was corrosion mostly around the outside and under the wheel weights. Cleaned up all four today.

Jacked up one front wheel, pulled hard on the parking brake, started the engine, put the car in gear and let the wheel spin.

Started with a black Scotchbrite single disc on the drill. It is just wide enough to do only the outside portion of the wheel (just outside the spokes). I used a block of wood to steady the drill and my hand and let the rotating wheel run the surface past the spinning disk. Used this to remove the clear coat, take off the corrosion, and slight road rash on the very outer lip. Then used a finer grit (red orange color) over the same surfaces, then finished by wet sanding with 320 grit and a flexible sanding block. I used a slight trickle of water from the hose constantly running ahead of the sandpaper, letting the wheel do the work. It took about 2 hours for all four wheels.

I ran out of daylight and it's cold outside; when I get some light and warmth, I'll spray the outer portion with a clear coat for wheels.

    Dude nice freakin job!
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

    Retro!

That is an amazing job. It looks like those wheels were taken pretty good care of in the first place.
