    Breaking off bolts

I am either really strong or my bolts are just really old because I keep breaking off bolts on my car. I broke one off in my trunk, 2 in my exhaust manifold, and I just broke one off in my wheel well. Are the bolts cheap or just old? Does anyone else have this problem? I do tend to put too much torque on them !

Is this tightening or loosening....Your not supposed to he-man bolts.

Btw if in doubt of the proper "tightness" get a torque wrench and a manual.
I know somone who uses all his body weight to tighten 1/4" bolts - and then wonders why they always break or strip the threads

you live in the wrong part of the country, snow, cold, salt and humidity. I live in the southwest where bolts don't break or rust but rubber gets eaten alive and paint gets faded.

yeah I am in sw Va. lots of salt in the winter. I keep breaking them off when I tighten them too much. I broke 2 off in the exhaust manifold trying to get them out. I broke one off the other day because I was trying to get that stupid brush guard under the front bumper to stay on!

you keep saying that you tighten them too much then stop doing that and see if the breaking stops

I hate them. All original Honda bolts and screws get rusty so fast. I went to the Honda dealership to see how much new bolts would cost me since I want to start replacing the most apparent rusty ones and it's 2$ the screw. Instead I went to a Home-Hardware type store and got ones that are almost identical except for how they don't come with their own rings which isn't a problem either because I got them too for only 24cents the bolt and they're quality compared to the Honda ones. They're inoxidable and keep their shine

if they are rusty, it is very common for them to snap off, ESPECIALLY the ones for that splash guard under the engine bay... i think all of mine are broken
