why is marijuana illegal?

I'm not complaining that it is illegal, nor am I looking for a rant/debate thread.

Just wondering if anyone had an answer.

Randomly the other day I thought about how you have to be 21 to drink...because drinking is bad. Drinking impares your judgement and leads to serious diseases.

Marijuana impares your judgement, and leads to serious diseases as well.

So I guess you could title this thread "why isn't alcohol illegal" also.


I asked a couple of my friends and they came up with a couple answers. One being "you can drink casually" and "drinking (liquids in general) is second nature, smoking has to be learned".

Why are cig's legal is a better question really.

pot alters your mental capacity...and that effect will last for a few days. Now most say it isn't permanent but it DOES reduce your mental capacity while on it. Course that doesn't address the question...as other things that are legal do this to.

There is no reason to make it legal though, there are plenty of other things to get high on...but whatever...it also has no medicinal value either.

Now as to the legality it was believed to make you crazy...so it was made illegal. My opinion...it may have not been made illegal if the main users put in the spotlight WERE nutcases and criminals...the other folks using it weren't pointed out, the folks who were "normal". They made correlations to the criminals and crazys and pot...and correlations aren't proof. Alcohol is only legal cause making it illegal caused more harm then keeping it legal.

i smoke(reefer) everyday..along with my friends..and my friends parents...blah blah and we all act normal and do regular stuff just like all you guys, go to the lake, go camping, snowboarding, ect... so idk y its illegal..now if i drank everyday?? and my friends and there parents drank every day? who knows wtf would happen, one/any/all of us could be dead, or just full blown alcoholics.

Honestly like all things I think weed is illegal because the gorvernment cannot regulate it. Cigarettes are just as bad yet they are legal.If you smoke trees just say you smoke trees for fun or to fit in. Dont say "My friends and I smoke it and we all turned out okay" cause you dont know. Nor can you see the future. All people have to say when asked is I smoke weed to fit in or to get high. Everything else is bullshit. The end.

So let me get this straight...you either get slammed shit faced or you don't drink at all?? You can't drink in moderation? If you drink any amount of alcohol you are now going to become an alcoholic? Not true...plenty of people who drink do all the things you listed. Plenty of people drink to no ill effect.

It is very annoying to see pot smokers keep bringing up alcohol when pot is discussed...pot effects your ability to think clearly and rationally just as much as alcohol

Even more so annoying is how single-minded pot smokers are. They spend all their energy quoting fellow pot smokers opinions...and treat them as facts...plus they never attempt to debunk their opinions nor do they try and find if there is any truth in the MYTHS THEY THEMSELVES PERPETUATE!

Pot is illegal because the government can't ever find a way to tax all of it. No matter how much they tax, People will still grow, smuggle, sell, and use it.

If they could tax it, Im more then 100% sure they'd legalize it.

So what exactly is wrong with you? What reason do you have to take offense as you have? You haven't defended your claims nor refuted mine...make a point or don't post please. I found it interesting how the long held views that alcohol is damaging are actually false and misleading, that shouldn't offend you or your nutsack.

Sadly many pot smokers also like to ignore facts that refute their points of view and preconceived notions.

You need to watch your language and cool your attitude...there is no reason for you to act as you are...that will cause this thread to get closed...so act a little more mature please.

When presented with facts that refute your opinions...how you handle yourself says a LOT about you...remember that.
