Ubuntu is very user friendly.
I sat my niece (10 yrs old), my sister in law, and my broter down in front of a desktop with a fresh Ubuntu install. None of them have ever used any sort of Linux, and all of them seemed to know just what to do.
There are a few major differences that, once you get used to, make using Ubuntu no more difficult than Windows.
If anyone needs any help getting things up and running, I'd be more than happy to walk you through via AIM, MSN or Y! messenger.
Ubuntu for the win!!!!
oh, and I can guarantee you that all your hardware is compatible. more hardware is compatible with Linux than Windows, simply because drivers are made by the public, and are open-source.... not by corporations and closed-source.

I believe Accord R33 has (or at least had) a resource available for new Unbuntu users as well.
I've never used any flavor of Linux, mainly because I'm used to Windows, and it does what I need it to do (and for my stupid work, my stuff has to be compatible with my boss's stuff... my VERSION of Excel has to be the same as hers!) I've always respected the platform, though. The stability, the ease of use, and the overall support is a good thing.
I was almost looking forward to getting a Linux-based netbook...
Going XP, though.

well, if you ever get sick of "the man", you know it's damn easy to put Ubuntu on the AAO.Originally posted by deevergote. View PostI believe Accord R33 has (or at least had) a resource available for new Unbuntu users as well.

Ubuntu is good for new linux users. After that, it really depends on what you're going to do with it. I'm setting up a FreeBSD server right now -- Not to say Ubuntu won't work for that (cause it will), just that FreeBSD is a more common server set up, and I want to try it out.1992 Prelude S w/swapped H22A

Eh, it gets better with each release. The most recent release (end of October) has excellent wireless support.Originally posted by Ralphie View PostRuns great unless you have wireless then it can be a pain.

running CentOS on a server myself. I wouldn't choose Ubuntu for a server... it's more tailored to desktop users.Originally posted by benji View PostUbuntu is good for new linux users. But yea i meant USB wireless is pain.
Im sure a lot more cards are supported then USB devices in Linux.
It's doable, just takes some work, and for a newbie thats not easy lol.
