I agree with what you did Sparkle. Not like they yelled through a loudspeaker or anything. I would have kept on going too. It's not fleeing if you didn't see them, which you might not have if you weren't being observant.

One time I was driving home on the freeway, and cars were all backed up pretty bad. I was in the right hand lane of a 4 or 5 lane freeway and my lane was ending/merging. I wasn't able to get over so I drove on the shoulder a little ways and then merged when it was clear. Keep the traffic flowin is what I always say. Well a highway patrol officer had 2 cars pulled over on the shoulder up ahead, maybe for doing the same thing, and he saw me. He motioned for me to pull over. I saw he was preoccupied with the other drivers so I kept right on going, pretending I didn't see him. Looked in the rear view mirror and he was pissed as hell. There was to much going on for him to do anything about it.

He definitely saw them and they were definitely approaching his car with the intention of stopping him. He said "when they stepped off the sidewalk...". I don't know about you, but to ME that sounds like they wanted to check out if anything was going on. Police don't generally walk around with loudspeakers and he stated that his windows were rolled up so there was no reason for the police to try and verbally tell him to stop.

Even if I came up to NYC and had no trouble it wouldn't matter. I can't have the same view that you have on it. I am fully aware that police profile to a certain extent. They are more likely to question a black male driving a modified car than a white girl driving a stock car.

I'll probably catch a lot of flack for that, but it's the truth. It may sound prejudiced or arrogant, but it's just going by the numbers. There are far more black males that commit crimes than white females. Not saying that every black male is some drug dealing, gun toting thug. Nor am I saying that every white chick is some make-up-d, polo wearing princess.

I know it sucks, and to be completely honest it sucks that it has to be that way. I wish the numbers were such that police didn't have to profile individuals. Sadly, it is not so and we have to deal with it.

So let's say you stop. The police come up and ask a few questions, check your license and registration, and because you weren't doing anything wrong you are on your way. Sure, it took a second but that cop instantly has a better feeling next time he sees you or another guy driving a modified car.

If he does hassle you, then take it to the department and get the fucker a good talking to from his boss.

However, by avoiding the situation you have left a bad taste in that cop's mouth. He now has the thought that you were just another modified car driving rebel who has respect for authority. Next time he sees a guy driving a modified car he is going to remember his last experience and how you seemed to dip out when he tried to approach you.

"My radio was on and all I saw was a flashlight through my back window... I couldn't tell if it was a police officer or someone who would try to hurt me..."

If you do go to court, thats all you should have to say...
