    Home Theatre setups?

Anyone on here have a home theatre setup?

    My current setup:
40" Samsung LCD TV HD ready
    Pioneer A/V receiver VSX-517S
    PS2 (mainly for playing DVD's)
    HD Freeview
Xbox (for games, Though I hear they can be converted to a media centre)
And my laptop for movies that I don't have on DVD.

    Speakers:
    Old school 4 way mains
    Sony 4" surrounds
    DIY centre speaker
DIY Active 12" sub (Mainly HT based but can play music well too)

    Future plans:
New TV stand with incorporated centre speaker and wiring to be made once ute is sold.
    Upgrade Oldschool speaker drivers.
    HTPC or PS3?
"Maybe" add back lighting to reduce eyestrain when lounge lights are off.

Currently deciding on weather to get a HTPC or a PS3??
My laptop doesn't have HD Video output, nor does it have an optical audio output, so currently I'm just using it "because I can"

Post up pics of your setups.

Dialogue is OK, I have the centre speaker at +/-0 db, If I turn it up it seems to over power the mains too much for my liking.
What centre speaker are you using?

I've got all bookshelf Pioneer speakers, 240L-S, and Pioneer sub. It all came in a kit. I have the center speaker set to 6.5 dB and all others at 5.0 dB and still have that same problem. The dialogue enhancement helps a little, but it would be better if there were some option that allows me to hear dialogue on all speakers.

          32" Sony XBR6
          360
          Sony BDP-S350 blu-ray
          Modded Xbox origonal
          Basic Sony surround system
          All hdmi cables

I'd say go with the ps3 over the HTPC, it is already built for the job and will have a lot less issues. I'm looking to get a harmon kardon receiver and some polk speakers eventually for a 7.1.

Why do you have the main speakers set at +5.0? Put them at 0db and modify the centre from there - provided the movie is in dolby digital, dialoguge should only come from the cenre speaker.
If you still have issues set the advanced surround setting to " X-stereo" it will eable dilogue on all speakers.

Can the PS3 access the web? Ie can I view CB7Tuner or anyother site?
Currently I use my laptop to play movies through the TV and like tonight for example I'm using it to "surf the net" via the TV using a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Yes the PS3 can access the web; CB7Tuner, youtube, etc... Just get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-..._ob_vg_title_0 to make your life easier.

Nice setups on here. I got a "starter" system going on: Sony 800w 5.1 surround system hooked up to my PS3. I also have a Wii and PS2 hooked up. I just need a TV to go with everything else. Still rockin an old school boob tube I do love Old School

So theoretically the PS3 IS a htpc then, just without a OS like windows or linux?

                    I don't know what I'm doing.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'd rather have sound on all speakers. Makes it sound more like the movie theater I go to.

                      I've got a Samsung 32" LCD that's a 720p or something.
                      Panasonic SA-HE70 Receiver
                      an Infinity sub
hand me down speakers from friends and my brother.

i've got some cheapo dvd player for my regular stuff and then a PS3 for my only 2 blu ray movies, Pineapple Express and Be Kind Rewind.

everything except the LCD, PS3 and the sub is more than 3 years old but it does a very good job for my small bed room.

It has an OS, in fact, I believe it is Linux based. You can even install Linux on it if you want.

Started on the new cabinet and mounted the tv on the wall.
Cabinet still needs to be sanded and painted, Cupboards still have to be trimmed slightly, and the centre speaker needs to be boxed.

                              Thats a nice setup!

                              I have:
                              40" Samsung I think the model is ln40b640. 120hz
Optimum cable. Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HD
Sony Bravia dav-hdx589w. DVD player and wireless 5.1 surround combo.
                              xbox 360
And my favorite piece of equipment in the whole wide world: Logitech Harmony 1000 (the old model i know)

I also built my own stand. Before i moved into my new place and i was browsing online for stands i noticed that most stands were about 2 ft. tall which in my opinion was rather short. So i bought wood from Home Depot and put together a VERY basic stand. If i remember correctly i think i built it to 2 3/4 ft.

I gotta take a pic when i get home tonight.
