Of course, an R32 GT-R can be had for under $10,000 FOB... so for roughly $10,000, a decent GT-R could be purchased and shipped over.

Then tack on...oh... I dunno... $25,000 to "legalize" it?

Danny, I WILL be getting a Skyline at some point. By that time, I expect you to be going full-on with your importing thing, so you can get me a good one!

I'm even considering looking for a turbo R30 1984. Exempt from all DOT and EPA regulations.

You can't be going to Japan Partner for cars. They've gotten way too commercialized, and not only are they not selling as many "De-comissioned" cars, they're taking consignments now, which are expensive as hell. I've contacted them, and they wont even deliver cars to the US because they wont clear customs. I'm not mad at them for being more expensive, they've just doing business. Private party is way better.

Also, a really good friend of mine is heading to yokohama for school, and he will act as my partner in Japan. Since he's got school, it wont be any heavy stuff.

Also, You don't need to legalize a Skyline in Mexico. Seeing as how my family owns a house in Tijuana!

Your best bet would be to find and buy one thats already been imported from cali and have it shipped to nyc because thats where most of em are goin on the low anyways.

Easy to obtain nevertheless but wait until you go to insure it good luck on that if its on liability and that shit goes missin. Not many gtr's lurkin around.

What makes it really expensive I've found, is that most overseas shipping companies have huge ass containers that are sitting at their docks that are just wasting space. They're charge an extra 2K+ for a container if you want to ship a car.

Containers are not necessary, especially if its only one car.

                        No. Here's why:

                        1. It's more than likely, when a GTR (or any legit RHD MAD TYTE JDM CAR has been inported) The price is JACKED up to 15K+ (GTR specifically) So, I'm not going to pay all that money. To some who doesn't know the importation process or simply don't want to deal with it (as it is a pain in the ass) it may be worth it. But since I'm doing quite often, I dont see the point in paying all that cash.

                        2. Why the hell would I bring it to new york if I live in California? The Skyline is just as illegal in New York, Jersey, Florida etc as much as it is in California. The bottom line, the car DOES NOT meet US DOT, EPA NHTSA regulations period, and can never be modified to do so. The only difference between California and the other states is that the others are more lenient.

Skyline's are NOT allowed beyond any U.S point of entry. The Skylines you see (which are rare) on roads here in america are completely illegal, and in fact, if a cop wanted to completely ruin your day, they could detain it, impound it and have it either exported or destroyed at your expense. There is NO way around it.

The ones here have been brought in illegally. They either have been dismantled in Japan and brought over in pieces, then re-assembled here, given a 240sx vin. OR they have been titled as a car that's older than 25 years old. (Example: They give an R32 a 1984 model year).

Any way it's been done, the bottom line is that unless its an R33 brought in by a registered importer, its 100% illegal. It's all just a matter of how lucky you are.

It just so happens the farther away from California you are, the luckier you will be if you own a Skyline.

Bringing in a Skyline from Canada is exactly like bringing it in from Japan.

If it's going to have Canadian plates, you better have a Canadian drivers license, up to date registration from Canada, Insurance from Canada AND insurance here in the US.

Once the skyline hits the US/CA border, it will be in a limbo until Customs decides to send it back, or let you keep it. (And if its a complete car, and you dont provide any DOT and EPA paper work, it's likely its going to get sent back)

I dont know what Canadian Exporter told you they would ship one to you, because all of the ones I talked to said they wouldnt send a DAMN thing to the US unless it was exempt.

Again, the Skyline is NOT exempt.
