    New short shifter....thoughts?

I'm thinking about buying a short shifter for my car. I've already got the 92-96 lude' shifter and bucket but I want more. Since Forbidden and Pspec aren't available anymore, I found this guy selling some he custom made. Looks like on CAD modeled after the Forbidden one. Do you think it would be a good buy? Its only 100 shipped for it so I was considering it.

Looks sweet! I want one now If it's something you wanna drop $100 on, go for it. There's a DIY thread or two on the ones we have, for like $5 total cost have you looked into that?

yeah those are only adaptors though, I want a REAL short shifter. This has 3 diff. settings you can put it in which I thought was cool, and weighs twice as much as the stock prelude shifter so the gear changes should be smoother. Right now mine feels a bit notchy

I'd go for it though. Thanks for the link, cuz it was either the stockbox upgrade from TAS, or this for my christmas gift to myself I think you should go for it, personally.

I love mine, I think I got the last one.

Anyways guys, the weight of the shift arm isn't going to have much of an effect. Its a heavy knob that you want, like a skunk2 440grams (almost a pound) More weight at the top of the shifter is going to create a greater torque around the pivot point at the bottom. That short shifter looks very well made and very solid though. If I had a prelude shifter setup, I would consider it.
There are no black and white suspension answers!!!!!!!!!!!

There's no difference between a "real" short shifter and an adapter. They do exactly the same thing. They relocate the shift cable mounting point. When your boot is on it makes absolutely no difference if you have a $100 piece of metal, or a $3 bracket.

Changing the shift point will almost ALWAYS make your shifting notchy. It's not the shifter that makes it notchy, it's moving the shift points, and changing the cable travel.

Additionally, the extra weight won't help much either. Leverage matters little when a cable setup. If it were a rod setup, it would be more significant. In this case, you're just sliding cables through their plastic sheaths. Any additional leverage would potentially just cause the cables to shift, transferring that leverage to sideways motion... not aiding shifting at all.

His was already a replica of the Fushigi shifter... both of which were no different than an adapter, other than the fact that the mounting point was welded on, rather than bracketed on.

but its still a bracket you mount on to a shifter, he wants a "true" short shifter were its a normal shifter welded together like factor in a sense. its just less stuff to break or mess up. also no chance of anything moving or getting out of wack, like how an adapter can slide around or gets lose after being used if you dont keep it constantly tighened up. i have used and i am currently using the $3 DIY adapter have been since some one posted it up 2 years ago. and I HATE IT!!! using a prelude shifter soon and then one of these shifters when i get it in the mail along with extenders as well.

True. I had a Neuspeed adapter that I couldn't keep on the shifter lever.

Well I had the neuspeed adapter on my coupe. Then I bought a forbidden shifter and I had better shifting points on the forbidden then on the neuspeed.

I didn't like the yeamans shifter feel on cpmikes car. He didn't either and took it off.

I have yet to feel the pspec but I do want to. Maybe if someone has it at a meet next time.

Had Neuspeed Adapter as well and was ok. Then Sir Yeamans (current) which I like the stubby looks and feel of it.

But the PSPEC? Totally different animal!

But back to topic, Kia, I would try it out personally if were you.
