    hypothetical- Drill hubs

What would be the big deal if you just re drilled hubs to a different lug pattern....

I cant image it affecting strength... Even if it did you could just weld the original holes..

the only thing i could see happening, is throwing out a little bit of rotating balance.
but probably not enough to matter if, if you kept the welds about the same size

Say you stayed four lug but 4x100. If you offset the holes correctly it would stay perfectly balanced without welding.

exactly. i can see it working if you drilled 5 lug too.

        if you spaced it right.

Only thing is are the holes splined factory... To keep the lug stud from spinning or just pressed in... I know you can just hammer them out but forget if they were splined or not.

That's got bad news written all over it.

Only way it would be bad news in my mind would be if you went 4x100 to 4x114.3/ 5x114.3 since that would place the lugs further out on the hub.... If you go 4x114.3 to 4x100 the forces move towards the center...

                  100 mm =3.93 in 114.3 = 4.5in

And worse then getting the right bolt pattern. Or doing a conversion. If you have to question whether or not it's safe, it probably isn't.

I'm asking for facts or educated opinions with science to back them up. ... Not I don't thinks or opinions..

You're right. Let me just apologize for my ability to care for your well-being even though I don't know you and take my opinions somewhere else. Have fun, let us know how it turns out.

I know a good amount of people who weld up and re drill a new pattern on their hubs. A few people have put ford 8.8 rears on their chevys and thats what they have to do.

For me, time is money. The amount of time I'd spend making sure the holes are drilled exactly as they would need to be to press the new wheel studs in place with no fitment issues, I could have probably just done a 5 lug conversion with cleaned up parts from a local junkyard.

Welding creates extreme heat. Extreme heat causes work hardening to the metal which changes the molecular structure of the grains in the steel. It can also cause warping. I would advise against doing it from a safety standpoint. I have friends that drilled new lug patters into their rotors using a CNC machine, but the rotors don't hold the wheel on either.

Be safe, be smart, just do it the right way
