Not in my case. When the pump failed, I had a few pieces that shot out like bullets. The jack was done for.

I got a replacement one for FREE.

I with you on that. I don't have a flat driveway either. I have to work in the street sometimes and that scares me. I live on a busy side street. I always have my dads van parked behind me just in case.

i don't trust the stock jack personally. had a smaller bottle style jack collapse on me before, while working on a dodge neon racecar for the dirt track in barre...fucker just let go. luckily, no one was around the car; but it did land on it's lca and tie rod end and broke a bunch of shit...never again will i EVARRR!

be careful out there guys. Jackstands are win.

        life is good.

I was changing a flat tire on soft gravel shoulder on my 95 Ford Contour (insert audible laughs here) and all I had was the stock scissor jack.

Got the jack under the side where the jack point was. This particular scissor jack had a slit in it where the seam of the rocker panel would fit into it.

Get the car raised up and it's pretty sketchy on the soft shoulder. Get my wheel off and set it aside to put the donut on. In that time I had the wheel off, a semi flew past me and actually blew the car off the jack, causing it to fall forward and land on the brake rotor in the dirt. The jack was tipped over and I was able to wiggle it out from under the car.

I had to jack the car up from near the middle of the rocker panel (near the B pillar) and get it up high enough so I could slide the wheel under the rocker panel towards the front so that I could let the car down on the wheel and then move the jack to the front jacking point where it originally was and get it raised up again so I could finish putting my donut on.

I had a seal leak enough to where it wouldn't hold the car up for more than 10 minutes.

i've gone through so many craftsman jacks i can't even keep track. i'd pump and the car would stay at the same height. i never had one completely go on me though.

they started recognizing me at Sears when i'd come in and exchange my leaker for a new one. i always ended up spending some type of money to upgrade because they didn't have mine in stock anymore. they know how to get ya.

                            Fuck ramps.

Me and my friend just picked up a 93 mercury topaz for free that we are fixing and flipping.

The other day, we were trying to get it up on ramps BECAUSE it had no brakes. I told my buddy this was a bad idea, but he insisted that the ebrake would be sufficient.

First try, tires spun on the ramps, went to the right, fell on to the right ramp and got wedged.

Jacked er up, pulled the ramp out.

Second time, car went right up the ramps, failed to stop, and slammed down on the other side, high centered.

Jacked her back up, and just cheated and pushed the ramps under the tires while it was jacked up.

Don't waste time with those, though, because we used the properly with my truck before all that happened and if you are lowered AT ALL you scrape. I almost lost my lip.

i'm in yuma, AZ at GM's desert proving grounds with my university's ECOcar team. we have a hydrogen fuel cell car and use a hydraulic scissor lift table to lift the fuel cell stack into the car. today, the table started to fail on us as we were lifting the stack into the car.

there are only a few things more worrysome than having a half-million-dollar piece of equipment up in the air about to install when it starts slipping down on a $350 table and you have to keep pumping it to keep it in the air.
