    Computer Nerds Report!

haha ok for the record im a computer idiot and I am in need of help.

My gf got me a new laptop for my bday. (Dell Inspiron i14R) Im wondering if

    1. There was a way to transfer my itunes from my old dell to this one.

    2. How to return my old laptop to factory settings?
I want it to be like it was out of the box so I can give it to someone. Im not to worried about being hacked for info since im giving it to my mom, but I want her to not have to deal with everything I used and downloaded over the years.

    1. Use a flash drive, or transfer them across a network.

    2. Reinstall windows.
-Use dBan to wipe the disk beforehand.

Turn on your computer and keep pressing Control+F11, you will be brought to a screen, if it doesn't work keep trying. Click restore on the screen that appears, go get some popcorn, sit back and enjoy the process
      Good luck

1: you could try a program called Bigasoft iPod Transfer.

2: Formating and then reinstalling the OS from the restore disk that came with the computer when you bought it would restore it to factory settings just like Geoff suggested.

          awesome guys!
Im looking into the different ways to transfer over now.

Not to sound dumb but if I reinstall the OS will it keep the other one on there? Like will it take the place of the other OS or is that still taking up place?

also my old computer was a inspiron 1525 with vista.. can I put windows 7 on there from the cd that just came with my new inspiron?

Reinstalling an OS will take the place of the old one, unless you tell it not to
The easiest way is to have it format the drives and install over all the old stuff

Just copy your itunes library and import it on your new machine.

Get a program called 'killdisk' (trial is fine) and erase your drive. Then reinstall vista. Windows 7 will need another key as we found out in another thread :P

Yes one Windows7 serial will work for 2 PC's maybe more but I wouldn't count on it.... I'm not sure about Office though, you may have to "edit" it.

I have it on two PC's now - I skipped the whole Vista OS but I know Windows7 uses a lot of RAM and CPU power compared to XP so it may run slower on that laptop.

Either way test it out BEFORE you register it with Windows online - once you do there's no turning back, hell if you don't like it you can use the serial for another PC.
