    The Golf Thread

Don't know how many golfers are on here, but here's a thread. Post whatever you want (vids, pics, scorecards). Keep it clean. I love golf. I wanted to be a pro when I was younger (pipedream), but know it's just a hobby. I started when I was 17, so I was a late starter, but I played a lot. My best score was a 71 which was even par. The course I would like to play the most is Augusta, followed by St Andrews. Anyway, I uploaded a vid of my swing today and thought I'd share it.

I can walk to 3 different courses in under an hour... well, the nearest one closed, so it's just an overgrown field now... but still.

I grew up within walking distance of Pine Valley, one of the most prestigious courses in the world. It's all closed off... you can't get in there unless you know someone (even a pizza guy has to get permission from the security guards!)
Half a mile from that is where they built a course for everyone... Pine Hill Golf Club... I hung out there at 4am when they were building it. Totally awesome Now, Trump bought it, and he's making it all fancy, so we'll have two fancy courses right next to each other.

                    Decent Looking Swing ...

I turned golf pro about 15 years ago .. you think you started late, I started when was about 35.
I went to school at The PGA Reserve in PSL Florida .. played The Dye Course and assisted there.
Only thing was, they wanted too many hours and not enough pay. We hosted the Gateway Tour.
Matter of fact, they held they're finals there one year, $125,000 first place.

The Dye Course was by far the best IMHO out of the 3 courses ..
I don't like Agusta because of Hootie and his BS, and the fact that they don't allow women on the course.
They also don't allow women in the clubhouse, and with that kind of backward 13th century mindset,
they can shove that place up their ass. All those pretty flowers and perfectly manicured fairways,
are all done just days prior to the event. Then, they're all pulled out and thrown away.

My favorite course is THe TPC at Sawgrass .. another Pete Dye gem. I like Pete's stuff.
He makes you think about where you need to place the ball. He can trick a course out in ways like no one else.

My best round is a 69 at The Dye Course .. I had 11 putts on the back 9 ...

I later went to Orlando and attended the Mitchell School of GC Building ..
I can build, repair, re-shaft, re-grip and fix any club in the world .. including re-whipping old persimmon woods.
I've made all of my clubs, but Taylor Made built me a driver (TP) that I just can't put down.
When I find something that I can hit better, I'll lay it to rest.

Your swing looks fine .. lil quick, but it's fine. Your head moves back with your take-away.
Could hurt you later on in life. and you may be losing some distance because of it.
You have a nice inside - out swing, which I'm sure helps to promote your draw.
But since you didn't hit any balls, I'll assume that you prolly play a small fade ..
Also, You start your down-swing with your arms. I'd rather see you start it with your hips.
You'll get more power, and may gain some yardage.

Just would love to see a bit of a puase at the top of your swing, for a regathering if anything.

Thanks for starting this thread .. I hope we find more golfers because of it.
Perhaps one day we could hold The CB7T Open ..

Thanks for the compliment! I miss Florida, used to live down there for a few months out of the year and did nothing but golf. I was also an assistant pro for 2 years here at a couple of courses in Ottawa. went to try for my CPGA card, I had to shoot two rounds of 78 or better and I blew it the first day, I was so nervous I shot a 92 followed the next day by a 75..lol. But you're right, the pay for isn't the greatest and I am happy to just play as a hobby now, no more pressure.

I used to be able to shape the ball when I was playing a lot, but my natural tendancy is a draw, I am working hard at trying to hit fades again because of the control and soft landings on the greens. I know my head does move quite a bit, I think mostly because for the last little while I've been really focusing on my backswing, so I tend to look at where my club is. I do have a fast swing, that is something I need to work on. One reason I start the downswing with my arms, is because I have a tendancy to slide my hips (it's from martial arts that I developed that habit), so when I do start the downswing with my lower body I have a tendancy to either snap hook it or block it way out to the right.

As for Augusta, I understand it is a snob place, I guess it's just because there's a lot of history there. TPC at Sawgrass looks beautiful, would love to play the 17th!!. There are so many nice courses I would like to play. The nicest one I've played is a local one here called "Eagle Creek", it has hosted a Nationwide event and I was also lucky to play The Ocean Club in the Bahamas. Also, one in Quebec called "Le Maitre" is very nice which I played when it first opened. Maybe there should be not just a golf thread, but a sports thread!!

                        LOL! a 92? Damn son .. ahaha .. I shouldn't laugh, it took me 3 tries to pass my PAT's ..
I also had to shoot 2 78's BUT, in the same day .. The first time I shot 82, 81.
                        The second time, I shot 79, 80 .. grrrrr.
The third time my caddy took the bag out of the trunk, and pulled my driver out of the bag ..
he threw it back in the trunk and slammed it .. he said, "you're not hitting that club today".
I was like ooomann .. At the time I carried a driver, 4 wood and The Heaven Wood 7.
                        I hit all day with the 4 wood, and shot a 77, 75 ..

Thing is, they had us play up .. almost from the whites!!!! I was used to the tips .. sooo,
needless to say, I hit into alotta trouble the first couple a times ..

Yeah, bad habit of looking at your take-away lol! As long as you can pull it off .. what the hey!
Hell .. look at Jum Furuk lol! On second thought .. no, don't look at Jum lmao!
Every time they show his swing, I have to look away .. uuug! But hey, he's won with it ..

My favorite golfers are Corey Pavin and Ernie Els ..Corey, because we're like the same size,
and we hit it about the same distance .. Ernie, because it's the best swing in golf .. like watching butter melt.
Too bad he can't put it all together.

Yeah, starting the downswing with your hips is a tough thang to learn .. I'm called a "spinner".
I too went thru marshal arts .. and yeah, it took awhile to *get it*.

From what I can see on the video, your grip looks to be mostly nuetrual.
I tend to have a stronger grip with which I can draw . I don't hit it as far as you do,
and I need that xtra roll ..

                        My bag:

                        Callaway Big Bertha 3 wood

Dad gave me two options when I was 12. He said "son, you can either go to college and get a real job, or you can become a pro golfer". 3 years later we're at a golf course. He looks at me as I swing and miss for the 3rd time and says "college it is".

Short version: I suck at golf.
