I know threads like these have been done a million times....but Im curious to hear peoples opinions

Im thinking about getting this quote:
"not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves"

Now my two main areas of concern are....Im not sure where to get it....and Im unsure if its...for lack of a better word....a manly tattoo haha....I know its not skulls and crossbones and shit....but the quote has meaning to me and it seems the only time I get tattoos are when Im going through some shit in my life.

I just dont want to get this....then feel like a chick in a year cuz I got a quote haha.

Im thinkin itd be less feminine if it was incorporated into something bigger....just havent gotten that far yet and I dont wanna add to it for the sake of adding to it.

I have a ton a writing tattooe'd on me. Personally, I dont really care if it's "manly" or not, if you like it then do it, I actually like that quote and if I had room on my body I would probably write the same thing!! As for where to get it, I like the tricep area sort of on the side of the upper arm, or the side of the torso or the underside of the forearm. Do it man, fuck what everyone else thinks!

I have a quote on my forearm as well, and instead of skulls and grim reapers...I have angels on my back instead.

I don't have a tat. There's nothing that I'd want at this point that I'd still enjoy when I'm 90 or so. If I get one, it'll be something extremely special.

My worries about it being manly were mainly from being sleep deprived haha....I know it doesnt matter as long as it has meaning to me....plus its not like im gonna get it on my lower back or its gonna be in Chinese writing

I was thinking about the rib cage/obliques....or on the forearm....leaning more towards the rib cage just cuz then its easier to cover up....I have no issues with having tattoos showing...but my parents do....and I gotta try and please them a little bit considering they hate tattoos in general

Matt...I have one at the moment...that I need to get redone/covered up....I like the idea of the tattoo....just went to the wrong place so it was poorly executed....I already know what Im gonna get done to make it so I love it....its just gonna be expensive haha.....Id have tons more....but I have the same worries about hating it in 25 years....so Ive told myself Im only gonna get them when they have meaning to me.

ya at first I was concerned about where to have them in order to cover them up in case I had too, that is something you have to take into consideration perhaps for future employment

I'm in the same boat man. I just got done going through some shit, so on the 4th, I got another tat. Its also a quote. It says "The will of God will never take you where the grace of God will not protect you." Basically, it means God will never put you through anything you cant handle, and also wont lead you wrong. I got it on the inside of my bicep. Hurt like a mofo though.

I like that quote....I know a few quotes that involve god/religion that would work well for me right now too....the only thing is Im not religious so getting something to do with it doesnt seem right to me.

I dont have to worry about future employment worrying about tats....Im a railroader for life....and having a few tattoos wont make them look down upon me considering some of the characters I work with haha

Im really considering the forearm now....Id like to be able to see it without having to take off a shirt or something....just worried about the parents haha

If you want it, get it. The BF has the words "Youth in Decline" around his forearm, backed by a greyscale city scape. The forearm is very manly, right around the thickest part. sexxy.
I know a chick that has Carpe Diem on her chest, just below her collar bones. Looks cool, not my cup o'tea, but looks good on her.
I also know a guy, serious rockabilly punker dude, who has AFI tramp stamped on him. Bad Idea. We come up with all kids of insults that correspond with a.f.i. but He wasn't thinking of the ridicule that a dude with a tramp stamp could catch.

I am at the point where I am ready to have tats that show, I have three that you can't see even in a bikini.

Just make sure its something you feel represents you. I've taken YEARS to pick/place mine.

I got my first (and thus far only) tattoo at 18....was going through some stuff at the time and it seemed like a good idea....and like I said the idea of the tattoo I like....just was poorly executed by the artist.....lesson learned there.

Ive been wanting more since then....but havent allowed myself to get one for the sake of getting one....but now seems like the right time....and I really am now leaning towards the forearm

You might feel better if you found a tat guy who really understood what you want. You should interveiw them, see their portfolios and be sure that their "style" meshes with your taste. My first one was a front porch tat. (Big dummy) Then I went to have it "fixed" by a random tat guy. (another Big Dummy)
So I learned, if you have a friend whos tats you like, ask him to refer you to his artist. OR go interview the artist. It will keep you from making the noob mistakes I did.
