They last much longer if you don't "break" loose super tight fasteners with the ratcheting side...

Google coupons for advanced they regularly have $25 off $50, $25 off everything, or spend a certain amount get a $50 gift card all the time... Order online and pick up in store.

Mike, we get our buddy Kevin with the snapon rig to come by. Longest i've been stuck with a broken ratchet or ratchet wrench was an hour or so. Normally I just used air to remove stubborn fasteners.

HF has some decent sets for cheap. Probably for a reason though. Still have my first 1/2" craftsman ratchet, still works! man that things' been through hell.

      life is good.

if you keep breaking tools you're probably not using the right one for the job. There's always a perfect tool out there somewhere....but its expensive to have ALL the required tools and good quality ones at that.

I've had my basic 96 piece Craftsman toolkit ever since I started working on my CB7 and joined this site back in 2006. But I've used my multicolored Harbor Freight 3/8" deep socket set for years and I haven't had to go back not once for a broken socket. Had to go back to Sears 3 times to replace the 3/8" ratchet though but each time they always grab a new one off the shelf which is cool.

I have an IR impact and still use HF tools on that as well, mainly the 1/2" impact sockets and the 1/2" swivel impact sockets...those are a lifesaver for motor mount bolts, and balljoint nuts....good for tight clearance spots.

But I'd swear on those GearWrenches though. I have the (18/19 16/17) as well as the (12/13 and 8/10) combo ones and those are great for tight spots like getting the alternator or PS bracket nuts/bolts out. The only thing bad thats happened to those is one of the adjusters came off at some point, but luckily its got two per end. Had those for about 5 years as well.

Well i don't mean everytime you wrench.

Of course if used incorrectly then you will have more issues then not.

Ive had a 160 peice craftsmen set since 2007 or so and i have yet to break anything in it.

It was even run over by a car and the plastic case didn't even crush!!!

But i know from my pops who was a mechanic his whole life, that tools break. Usually when you least expect them.

Even if maintained they break due to the excessive forces put upon them.

I trust Stanley screwdrivers and ratchets. Does that count? Lol.

I picked up the GearWrench sets from Advanced. Got an online buy/in-store pick-up coupon of 15% off. So I only ended up paying like $52 for each set. Not too bad.

I know having tools can be addictive, lol. But I dont usually use anything out of the ordinary. Between my personal tools and whatever we have in the garage, I can usually get the job done. Only thing I probably wouldnt mind having is air but they get expensive, especially when you start getting into compressors and all that jazz. And if theyre small, you gotta stop and wait sometimes. :\
