Alright, some of my female friends seem to trust this friend of one of their brothers... Problem is that after talking to him for a few minutes I quickly realized he's a compulsive liar. And although I managed to fix one of their cars after it was absolutely totaled, they seem to think he knows every bit as much about cars as me on account of the fact that he knows how to change oil...
But I digress, here's a list of things I could use help debunking. Maybe some backing from knowledgeable internet people will help? If you can chime in on any of these, you have my gratitude
First claim: He has a 94-97 Accord. Non-vtec model. He claims it's 140 horsepower from the factory. To the best of my knowledge, the only non-vtec 4 cyl engine available for that chassis is the F22b2. Stock horsepower 130. Can people here chime in to agree that he's lying?
Second: His car has 180 horsepower. Cause he added a K&N filter, changed out the intake tubing (not the manifold, just the tubing), then added new injectors and better spark plugs. Still stock exhaust. Can someone give me a more reasonable number for his horsepower? You know like 135-140? Agreements, yay or nay?
Third: He has a 6000 dollar racing transmission in the car. Is this even possible? I have no idea where one can obtain a 6000 dollar transmission for an Accord. He claimed it was for a civic that bolted right up (but civic transmissions require adapters, correct?). Anyway, is there even a way to spend 6000 dollars on a transmission for the car and keep it daily drivable? I'm thinking for starters it'd have a 3 puck clutch and a flywheel so light you'd have to idle the thing at 3000 RPMs for it to not stall at takeoff.
Fourth: When he was 16, apparently he bought a Pontiac Firebird for 500 bucks. With 580 horsepower. And it was fully street legal. Does anyone think this is bull? A car that cheap with that much horsepower to begin with is insane, the idea that a 16 year old could drive it is next to impossible.
Fifth: He lost said Firebird when cops caught him doing 150 miles an hour in a 30 mile an hour zone. Forgetting the fact that a 16 year old would almost definitely lose control, crash, and die in the situation, if that were true, then once he got his license back, would he even be able to afford insurance? I'm thinking for a ticket that bad your insurance goes up to over 1000 bucks a month, especially when you're less than 25. So either he's lying, or he's driving without insurance, right? (He doesn't make enough to afford 1000+ bucks a month insurance)
Sixth: So, apparently even though this was like 4 years ago, he can buy the car back from the police impound. For $12,000. This set off three huge red flags, since I know that
A. Impound yards charge about 30 bucks a day to keep a car there. At 4 years, he'd be looking at over $40,000, not $12,000
B. Police auction cars. They don't hold onto them unless they're being used as evidence. So within 4 years the car would be auctioned, not still available.
C. If it's at a private impound yard rather than a police impound yard, it would have been parted out/sold/scrapped within 4 years since impound yards won't hold onto stuff that long.
Seventh: He claims to know about cars. One of my roommates asked him what would cause the inside and outside edges of a tire to wear. He had to look it up. Now, on account of the fact that my mom could answer that question I'm thinking he must know next to nothing about cars.
Eighth: When changing the oil on one of their cars (the neon I fixed after it was totaled) he determined that the reason the car shakes a bit when it takes a left curve is because it has mismatched stabilizer thingies on it. As soon as I heard that the one on the driver's side was blue and the one on the passenger's side was gray, I knew he meant sway bar endlinks. Now, I'm just thinking, shouldn't anybody who's good with cars know that? Also, isn't he retarded for thinking that the mismatched endlinks would cause that when they're A: Both specifically for the car and B: Both in good condition?
Ninth: When one of the roommates asked what type of oil to put in their car, he was silent. I finally said it's probably 5w-30, virtually everything is, but double check your owner's manual to be sure that's right for upcoming winter weather, blah blah blah. As soon as I said 5w-30, he chimed in and said yah, 5w 30, all cars run 5w 30. He couldn't answer until I did since he didn't know
Tenth: He took one look at this car
http://www.carcraft.com/featuredvehi...gon/index.html
And said he wouldn't be caught dead in it cause it's a station wagon. He doesn't, however, mind Pontiac Azteks or Sunfires... He thinks they're just fine but that wagons are ugly.
Doesn't necessarily make him a liar, but does it at least make him a freak?
So, if anyone can back me up on any of these, you're a pimp. Thanks
