    Interesting....

So, I've been doing some detailing jobs on the side for some extra cash.

Back in late may or June, I detailed this girl's Cobalt sedan. Really cute girl, nice, and single. I found this out as she was being picked up by a blind date as she was dropping off her car lol.

Anyways, I detail her car, which was absolutely disgusting, and at the time, I didn't have my handy little deep cleaner shampoo machine, so I wasn't able to get some of the stains out of the seats.

Either way, she was really happy with how much cleaner the car was.

A few weeks ago, I texted her to let her know I bought a deep cleaner and I offered to finish up the job free of charge since I was not happy with the end result from last time. This was a ploy on my end to not only finish the job and make me happier, but I also wanted an excuse to see her again.

Earlier this week she sent me a text asking if I could detail one of her friend's vehicles this week. I said sure, so on Thursday she brought her (guy) friend over with his jacked up Sierra that desperately needed a detailing. Charged $40, gave him 10% as a referral rate. He was super happy with the job I did, so all is well.

Then she asked when I could do her car, and I said anytime really. I ended up doing her car today....which she got absolutely filthy again. Here I was expecting to just deep clean seats and carpets. It was bad enough I decided to go the extra mile and clean her whole interior again, free of charge as I had offered.

When it was done, she shows up and gives me a 12 pack of beer, a huge hug and then asked me out for drinks this week.

Winning. Taking her up on that offer. Curious to see where that leads to. Did I mention she was really cute?

    You detail cars for $40?

Typically just a basic interior clean I'll charge $50, and only takes an hour or two.

To add the deep cleaner and stain removal and stuff I charge $75-100.

Usually I'll do a full car, inside and out for $100-150. Quick easy money for a couple hours' work.

Molson M, as I had asked for. Mmmm, delicious.

And yes, I don't charge much, but all my customers don't want to pay $250 at the dealerships and detail places, and I already have all my own tools and products, so I do maybe a job or two during the week, make $100 in 2 hours when I'd make $112 after taxes in 8 hours at work, so....

I get free-market principles but honestly, who can complain about $50/hr. for work that comes to your house? Just because other places charge exorbitant fees for stuff like this doesn't mean Mikey is selling himself short. I'm sure he's just doing what he think is a fair return on his materials investment and effort. If I had people lined up to get their cars detailed you bet I'd gladly take $50/hr to do it.

^ this. Not only do the customers bring the car to my house, I even take all my equipment and do it at their house. Talk about service.

The way I look at it is an hourly rate. I charge $50-75 to do an interior that takes me 1-3 hours. Easily $20+/hr, while I make $14/hr at work full time.

X2, Money is money, and at that rate (and tax free at that) anyone would be dumb to say no.

I couldn't help but notice that if you lowered the price from $50 to $40 then that's a 20% discount, not 10%. Otherwise nice job scorin the girl. Car guys finish first!
