    Cheap 7" touchscreen monitor?

    USB powered... Link.

This might be the answer to my prayers! If I can find a way to mount this sucker to my dashboard, I could just tuck an old busted laptop under the passenger seat (I have one with a broken monitor), and voilą... All I'll need is a cheap wireless mini keyboard, and I'm good to go!

I know it's cheap Chinese crap... what do you guys think. Worth the risk?

could be. depends on what it will be used for specificly.also makes your car more prone to breakins like a gps.

True. Though my GPS is always visible... as is my dash cam, and my netbook on my front seat. (I live in a pretty damn safe area, apparently.)
This thing looks to be pretty easy to pop off of that mount, so if I screwed the mount in place, I could just remove the monitor when I park the car.

It'll mainly be used for spreadsheets. Right now, I use an old 1st gen Acer Aspire One netbook, but it's a pain in the nuts to have to lean over to my passenger seat to type in entries at every stop I make (property inspections.) I don't need a whole lot of screen space, nor do I need an incredible HD picture... just enough to do my work. However, if I ditch the netbook for an in-dash monitor, I want to be able to control where I'm typing, hence the desire for a touch screen.

Why not just keep the netbook? Just mount it somewhere and hook it up to your screen and keyboard. Kinda like a dock. Might even look nice if you do it right

Ever try mounting a netbook to the dashboard of a car with a manual transmission? Not happening.

Ive said from the beginning, Nexus 7.

I think the 16G models dropped in price since the 32G came out.

            No more 8G ones.

If you only need to add info in at each stop, then why even mount it?

Its a 7'' Tablet....you can quickly pick it up, unlock it, open whatever app you use to track info(spreadsheet etc) add in info, lock it, and put it back down.

If your set on mounting a sceen, then I would go the Police route.

Anything that is going to spend 90% of it's life in the car(sun/cold) will wear quickly....especially cheap ass knockoff screens.

I mean the LCD touchscreens on high end radios last quite a while, but they are prone to get dead pixels etc.

Then how you getting that info to the house or work?

with the tablet, it goes with you when you leave the car.

And for the record, im not trying to push Google products lol.

Id suggest the Ipad Mini(7") but I believe its $349.

            The 16G Nexus is $199.

SD card for data transport. it's what I use now with the netbook.

I need a Windows system, so an Android device won't cut it. I could always get a cheap in-dash android computer for fairly cheap.

i was talking about mounting it with the lid closed. like under a seat or a pouch under the glove box.

With the lid closed, it's off... and I can't do very much with the lid closed.

For use with this monitor, yeah, I could potentially do that... but a busted laptop would work just as well, and leave me with a functional netbook that's not hidden under the seat.

Most laptops and netbooks have the option to allow the system to run with the lid closed. It's in the power options. Check and see if that's an option.

I don't run my big website from my netbook!

Regardless, I'm not choosing to use the busted laptop because I don't think I CAN use the netbook... I just don't want to stuff a perfectly good netbook under my seat, when I can use a dusty old busted thing instead.

I see what you mean now. see what i was thinking is you turn it on, plug the stuff into it,close it and tuck it somewhere, then when your done take the netbook back out.

however, it would be easier to mount an old dusty laptop and just leave it...unless your not doing that too.

I leave the netbook in my car anyway with the way things are. Data transfer is done via SD card.
