    Passport DOHC 3.2/3.5...what a joke

I have today for the second time in 3 months delt with pulling one of these engines. The passport brand as a Honda, on a Isuzu Chassis with a wait for it GM engine. WTF?

These engines are prone to breaking rod cap bolts, then its all over. AC delco electronics found through out the engine bay and even a delco ecm system. DOHC with what remind me alot like Toyota head designs, containing buckets and shiims over the valves, When the timing covers are pulled its like a honda, but not since there is a hydraulic tensioner much like a Mitsubishi, but still very similar in design to the C and J engines made by honda. What were they thinking?

if you are talking about those OLD first gen passports? My friend had one and it drove funny didnt have alot of power had wiring issues but he never busted the engine or tranny on it and he drove it every where and it only had like 80K and was already falling apart,

From what I understand Isuzu made the passport first and honda bought it from them to replicate it.

    IDK.

Then newer passport however (not the newest ones but whatever) are freaking nice! Leather and 4wd just slow and not exactly a good handling suv but a very nice quality ride.

I used to have a 91 Isuzu Rodeo with a GM 3.1 V6 in it. Thing was a total dog and a pig on fuel, but it was lots of fun. I loved it.

The Passport was a rebadged Rodeo basically. I just saw one the other day. The 3.2 in those is the same V6 used in the Trooper and I think the later Rodeo. Horrible, horrible engines. The 2.3 was probably the best of the several engines they offered.

My Rodeo eventually succumbed to rod knock, near 280 000km. Was a great vehicle. Paid $600 for it back in '06.

I also had a couple Troopers too. My '88 2.3L 5spd. Rusty but trusty.

im refererring to the later models with the DOHC 3.2 and the 3.5 found inthe troopers. Both the same with the Trooper having the small displacement bump. both both still junk.

          Similar to the Honda Horizon.
Basically they are just Honda Badged Izuzu's from when Honda helped the company out in the 90's.

Similar to the Rover thats full of Civic parts.

Car Safety / General Servicing Checks --------Basic suspension checks

A "Finished" project car is never finished until its been sold.

If at first you don't succeed, Try again. Don't give up too easily, persistance pays off in the end.

The 3.2's are nightmares from what I've ever seen and heard. I wanted a newer Trooper, but after I read about how bad the 3.2's are I decided to stay away. Must be a reason I never see any on the road lol.

talk about a noisy motor. we had a rocker tick that happened before and after we rebuilt the motor and turns out the rocker shaft wore out lol. how does an aluminum rocker wear out a steel shaft?

Easy engines and transmissions to pull though, comes rite out once transmission is removed, cause you know you have to that when the engine pops a rod bearing cap, slinging the rod through the block and out the bottom of the oil pan. This Isnt a high mileage case either, were talking 120k.

The fans on these things are the noisiest ive ever heard, louder than the older models and older model 2.8 blazers. I have a blazer, 2.8 OHV that I got on the cheap and the fan on it is no where as Loud as the 3.2. Sounds like a fan boat to me. Good power, just not reliable. Best part is if the timing belt breaks the pistons will never meke contact with the valves, even if the valve is open all the way and the piston is tdc.

Oh and they also contain IAB's in the intake manifold....big surprise.
