Funny thing, my DD 92 CB LX Sedan Auto threw a code 14 today randomly when merging on the highway. I drove for about 15 miles then ran the code after getting off the highway. Turned the car off and back on 30 sec. later and it went away.
And at the proving grounds I work at, Honda HRA moved out and we took over their garage space, my boss let me keep what they left over....about 3 gallons of fresh new Honda ATF in a big jug, 6 bottles of DOT3 brake fluid, 2 qts of MTF and 2 qts of 5w30. So i drained and refilled my car 3 times today after work. Every time too, the magnetic drain plug seemed to attract metal particles. Seemed to have helped shift quality a ton.
But you seriously can't find anyone in FL that can help you swap it? It probably takes 3-4 hrs tops with 2 people.
I met some people at a local honda meet and a week later a guy was helping me do my clutch in my coupe, we got it done in 3 hrs together. So I would look and maybe post on some local import forums and ask for assistance. I'm sure someone will be willing to lend a hand.

I'm in a "dead spot" for CB7 peeps, I know of one up in the panhandle by Tallahassee, a couple in Jacksonville and the rest are in south Florida, none anywhere close to Gainesville, the "college town."
It is missing the ball for the trailer hitch but that's easily replaced.

Gas mileage on them things are gonna cost. I would have just sought out another solution to solving the problem. First I'd start with a flush and filter change. If that doesn't help check them solinoids if that doesn't work have it rebuilt.
I tried all that, I tried everything short of a swap but VSS and shift cable.

What other solution might I have sought? I haven't worked in 6 years, none of those in my area will hire me, despite being very diligent in my searching, my mom barely keeps a roof over our heads, bills paid, gas in the car, food in our stomachs, there is no possible way I could turn down a free vehicle, I would still be bumming rides or just plain on the streets.

What pisses me off the most about my cars transmission going out? I had just bought new tires for her for the first time in 6 years (had been getting used ones) in March........

..........no, that was a condition of accepting the truck. He didn't want to see it sold, I assured him that, if he got me mobile again, I would not sell it. You are ungrateful if you would be like that with a free car, wish I could delete this thread now if that is how some people are going to be with my situation and my willingness to accept this gift.

I am not someone who will profit off of a gift, especially one as expensive as a vehicle, in the last 15 years, we have been given a total of 8 different vehicles of a wide range of makes, some I hated, some I loved, the Honda is one of those and I started off not liking it! The ones I missed were the two SUV's we had. Both had Vortec engines in them but no transmission drain plug!! One I hated was the Isuzu! Too hard to work on. We had 2 Buicks and a Toyota that was already on its last leg. Now the Mercury - #8 if anything, you can say that I am very humble, I will ask for and accept help when I need it! I will not turn down help just because "it's a Ford" and I won't turn around and profit off of a gift that I have been given.

One of my close friends got a free '96 Explorer XLT not too long ago to replace an Escort he really needed to give away. I understand your situation. A free gift is a free gift, and it will give you time to save a little and plan for the future of the CB.
