What would be a fair price for a Holset HX35? I see the 35 and 40 models popping up for sale all the time, some look in decent condition and for the same going price as a cheap EMUSA or Godspeed. There are three for sale now and like since folks have no real use for them, they are taking offers.

I would take used quality over brand new garbage any day. As long as you get one that isn't damaged beyond repair, you could spend under $100 to rebuild it. There's even an HX35 rebuild video on YouTube! I haven't watched it, but I saw it in my brief search. Consider a $100 add-on price for a rebuild kit, and determine if the price of a used turbo is fair. Honestly, if they're available for about the same price as that cheap Chinese junk, I'd say it's a fair deal.
Find a compressor map for the specific turbo that you want, and make sure that it'll suit your needs. Too large will take too long to spool. Too small will be a blowtorch.

I hear that, a friend welt his pistons to the block because of an extreme lean mixture that heated the crap out of the rings.

Turns out Straightedge used the HX35 for his build too, i have been seeing more and more DSM and Civic folks running Holset snails because of the dependability and lower price than buying a new or even used garrett and they tend to have the T3 configuration too so it can be used with a simple log manifold.

There are currently 4 being sold locally; $250, $300, $450 and $850. I just wanted to know a sort of ballpark figure folks are buying these for that way i dont offer more than i have to.Originally posted by islandhopper View PostThe E30 guys are usually all over those. been running holset for 10+ years. hx35 is a nice turbo. twin scroll is advantageous on a smaller motor. easy to rebuild. If i remember right it flows around 52lbs/minOriginally posted by wed3kim a douchebag to people and i don't even own a lambo. whats your point? we, douchbags, come in all sorts of shapes and colours.

Thanks toycar, according to my calculations it should be making nice power around 3500 rpm. I am not going for any record numbers or speed so the Holset should put me in the 300s which is plenty enough for a car that started off at 130hp. I am off to see your MRT, Thanks.Originally posted by toycar View Postthis

ok so only thing to turn up at this point was a HY35W for $120. Its a little bit smaller than the HX35, would provide better spooling but would limit power

great price. if you are only shooting 300whp or so, this turbo will suffice no problemo.Originally posted by Crankshaft View Postok so only thing to turn up at this point was a HY35W for $120. Its a little bit smaller than the HX35, would provide better spooling but would limit power

8 blade hx35 flows 52lbs/min = 500+hp
the hy35 will be just fine and could push 400hp with supporting mods.Originally posted by wed3kim a douchebag to people and i don't even own a lambo. whats your point? we, douchbags, come in all sorts of shapes and colours.

I kept looking for hx35 but i ran accross this hy35 instead, i will be running a similar to or a bisimoto stage 1 turbo cam and since i will be changing out injectors and fuel pump i am considering just taking the leap and change out the fuel line as well to run E85. Intake wise i am debating over the h23/a6 combo or a stacked a6 due to the shift in power accross the band. But at least getting even the HY i know i will have a solid turbo to run and not have to worry about running restrictors and all that stuff common with cheap turbo. It will also free up money to spend on other areas of the build. With boost you either build the turbo around the engine or the engine around the turbo.Originally posted by toycar View Postgreat price. if you are only shooting 300whp or so, this turbo will suffice no problemo.

7 blade flows more, but surges lower and is narrower. 7 blade spools faster, but again, surges under high pressure. 8 blade maintains high pressure better and had a more attractive compressor map for a smaller motor.
id go hy unless goals are high 400-500 hpOriginally posted by wed3kim a douchebag to people and i don't even own a lambo. whats your point? we, douchbags, come in all sorts of shapes and colours.

So i kept looking for a holset turbo, the guy with the Hy35 has not appeared again and lo and behold i found this HE351CW from a 07 ram 3500. It needs rebuild but i got it for a whopping $30, according to the research i have done this is the biggest HE351; inlet is 4 inches with a total diameter of 8 inch. Only issue is the exhaust uses a v band unlike the HY and HX which everyone makes DP for.

good price, nice pickup. tack the flapper shut on the wg and youll be good to go.you can swap out the turbine housing for a "bep" housing that will mate to any dsm flange. im assuming your boosting f22a? if so, dsm manifold + bep housing and your turbo and you are inOriginally posted by Crankshaft View PostSo i kept looking for a holset turbo, the guy with the Hy35 has not appeared again and lo and behold i found this HE351CW from a 07 ram 3500.
