the cp[mike] reswap thread (pics and progress!)

alright, ive been without the h22 for a while now. the 93 acclude i drove got wrecked, i picked up a stock 93 ex sedan to replace it... its still stock, 206k miles, auto f22... havent changed the oil since 188k...

anyway two days ago some seal somewhere took a shit. spewing oil out everywhere. put it up on a friends lift to check it out, seems its just old and everything everywhere was damp... huge leak coming from the filter, replaced it and put new oil, but still leaked. leaked too much to actually drive anywhere without 5 extra quarts of oil, and stopping to check every 5-10 mins.

solution? take the f22 out and stick the h22 in. h22 is reliable and i know its going to start and run every time this winter, which is much more to say than i could about the f22, which had a hard time starting when it was freezing out...

so, excalibur02 is on his way up with the engine hoist (him, me, and doctorcipher split the cost) and some of hte tools he was borrowing, and we are going to start swapping tonight. we should be done sometime tomorrow.

i dont have the time to convert the car to manual, so its staying automatic for right now. just throwing the h22 in to keep the car running, i need it for work.

next spring i have a euro-R lined up, so im going to just run this h22 auto until i get that sucker and put it in with the m2b4/lsd tranny that was in my old car.

so, this is going to be the official progress/pics thread, just because its always fun to watch someone through a project...

...so, stay tuned. gonna run outside and put the car in the garage.

initial pics! cars lined up in the garage, got two lights clipped onto the edge of the garage door for lighting, toolbox next to driver side wheel... just waiting for mauricio to get here then the swappage begins!

if u didnt know before, i was in an accident with the car that was supposed to replace the car that was wrecked in an accident... lol (d'oh)... anyway its straight as you can see, it just has no bumper support beam so the ropes are holding the cover on so i dont get pulled over.

the old f22 thats getting taken out

the h22 and an extra auto tranny... the one in the car is slipping possibly

well as of yesterday, it was 4° out. thats what i expected to work in, so right now its 33° so im actually ecstatic about the temperature. its supposed to be this warm straight through tomorrow and sunday, so just a jacket and youre set. once you start working you always warm up anyway.

This should be interesting --- always enjoyable to watch people who know what they're doing. If thought there was any way I could swap an engine in a weekend (or a week!) I'd buy one tomorrow. Whew! cp[mike], you guys must have this down cold.

P.S. Is that f22 in there one of the ones that has the oil cooler? Just trying to imagine what's near the oil filter that would cause that much oil to leak so fast.

Was also going to ask: Why isn't this in the Swap forum? Seems more relevant there.

downstate NY, an hour north of NYC. its cold, the only thing good about it being so cold is that if you cut your finger, you dont feel it. its just numb lol... i didnt notice until my tools all got sticky that my blood was everywhere... brand new box of bandaids and we are set, enough for every finger for both our hands hehe

and deckeda, yeah we got it pretty down pat, a few times already ive swapped a motor overnight its actually so damn easy youd be surprised, it just LOOKS complicated to somebody who hasnt done it before....

When I changed my manifold, I was wearing gloves. Not because I did not want to stain it, but because my tools were ice cold.
