just something that i wonder about...

everybody always says "i cant justify spending $__ on a 13-16 year old car"

    ...why not?

what makes a new car that much better, besides the fact that its more expensive? the CB has the same luxuries as lots of newer (at least, late 90's) cars...

the CB is cheap, reliable, common, easy to work on, easy to drive, cheap to own. i love the way the car looks, the way it feels, the way its designed...

when i look at the vehicle market as a whole, i dont see old and new... i see different cars with different benefits, and different styles. out of every car on the road, i picked the CB7 as my choice. it just so happens that its old and cheap.

people spend thousands on mods for new cars. i spend thousands on mods for my older car. the only thing is, theirs retains value better... but value is in the eye of the beholder, or in this case, the owner.

granted my motor is "new" (2000) but thats besides the point... id feel just as comfortable relying on my previous h22 from 1994 as my current one.

im no different than any other car owner out there... i spend money on my car. it just happens to be old. but i like it.

why is spending $3k on a paint job for a new car any more justifiable than spending 3k on a paint job for a CB? both will turn out looking just as sparkly as each other, just the new one is shaped different, and produced in a different year.

i dont know what the point of this was, besides a rant i guess. any input and comments ?

I hear that all the time at school. "Why do you still have such an old car? Stop spending money on it and buy a new car."

Well see what they have to say when they see the h22.

about the whole value thing. in my opinion, once you start modifying a new car it loses value...to me. unless of course it is my car. i am not a fan at all of buying a modified car simply because...it's been fucked with. i would rather buy a 15 year old stock clean car than a 2005 modified car. sounds dumb but i wanna be the only one who has done anything with my car. that's why i don't let anyone else work on it

I get shit at school for having my cb. People say stop puttin money into that old junker buy a new one but they dont see the sentimental value it has.

          sentimental value aside...

my friend dave said to me, "nice motor... but why are you putting it in such an old boxy car? get a 5th gen, its so much better!"

my point is, what makes a 1997 accord any better than my 1992? same motor, same suspension. the parts are newer, but what does that accomplish?

Yea i hear that all the time. my friends see my car and they say why dont you get something newer? im say umm no. what makes newer better? my ex used to say that as well, she then bought a new 05 civic that she still owes tons of money on and has had two accidents already and she says shes doesnt even really like it anymore. haha oops. but my cb has been with me the whole time and will most likely outlive her car.

really I like my 4th gen better then the 5th's..

But I don't really care much for power windows, or things like that as they are pains in the ass to fix.

Also insurance is cheaper on the older cars, not to mention I paid less for my CB cause it was too old to fix for the guy who owned it.
                  Hi, I'm Shippo and I have a problem. I keep buying CB7's.

i just did my sisters p/s pump. the thing was making this terrible extremely loud clacking sound, it scared my sister so much that she stopped driving it until she could get it home. my sister is scared to drive her car to work, while i dont even think twice about driving mine to NC.

I drove my sisters car to where I work so my dad could look at it, on the way the guages shorted out, which kinda scared me. we got there, and I shut it off, it wouldnt start again. I determined then that it needed an new alternator. my dad didnt beleive me, but after a new battery (prolly needed it anyways) and 2 weeks of procrastinating, he put it in the shop for a new alternator. hopefully that fixes it.

the worst part? the car has 77,xxx miles on it, and about 60 thousand of those were either highway miles, or miles my grandmother put on it. this definitley wasnt a car that got beat on.

american cars just dont have the same long term reliability as imports. sadly, I trust my honda more on a long trip than I trust that car. This is sad because I have a horrid vibration (caused my unbalanced wheels) and I dont have A/C. Yea, the A/C isnt a trust type thing, but it really makes long drives alot less comfortable.

something i thought of while i was in bed, i forgot to add:

im not saying new is bad... im just saying new doesnt mean better. i would LOVE for my cb to be brand new, i just wouldnt want it to be ANY different (besides faster and handle better, of course, but the same goes for any stock car)...

just goes to show that id rather make my old favorite car new, than settle for a newer car that i dont like as much. sure it takes a lot of work, but thats the fun of the project!

                            ...alright goodnight.

The CB7 to me is like a cheap reliable japanese version of a classic luxury car.
Sometimes I'll come up to an older Mercedes from behind and think it's someone with a CB.
The CB7 is unquestionably a more masculine looking car than the CD, no offense guys.
If the CD's lines were masculine... well, look at a 92-96 Prelude.

My car will have all brand new suspension, brakes, wheel bearings, clutch system and a rebuilt motor. What exactly is it that's old, chassis metal and wires?
I hope to be driving mine still like 10 years from now, kicking the crap out of and outlasting most of those new and expensive and ugly bastard cars. Honda's shit doesn't even look good to me anymore and I'm not paying $12,000 dollars to buy a slightly used Scion TC just to have some guy in a 1800 dollar accord with an old 2000 dollar replacement motor kick my ass.
Ok, I think that I got the rant out. I picked the TC as an example because it's one of the only new sporty cars that looks good and is close to being affordable.
My "stock" '93 prelude eats RSX-S's ($1500, junkyard (priceless)), I might have money but I'm not trying to overpay for some peace of mind about reliability- buy tools and learn to use them.
My old cars get newer and stronger as I weed out the weak parts.

In some ways my cars are better than the women I've seen:
You can turn a good car on with the flick of a finger
It's always there for you when you want
It never feels neglected when you don't pay it attention
It won't care if you drive other cars
If it gets bitchy, you can shut her down with another flick of the key - zip it!
A good one can take everything you can dish out and love it
A really good car doesn't even mind if you abuse it a little, it just loves back!
