    i'd say keep the accord.

the S2K is an awesome car...but not practical. i'd save it for a later day. or, for that matter, something cooler might come out when you're ready to buy the S2K in some years.

    who knows.

anyway, i'd just mod your accord. h22, whatever.

    that's just me though

lol I know its not an option, but a prelude you might like with manual h23 or h22 would be a great fit. Great speed and also the *option of carrying more than 2 people.
      Yeah, Preludes

So what you're saying, Steve, is that he should wait till he's old to buy a sports car?
Looks like insurance in Ontario isn't much better than insurance in NJ! I know those figures would be a little lower in USD, but not by all that much. I think I'm paying about $40 a month for each of my cars at the moment... and then a bundle for my wife's 02 SE, since that has full coverage. My cars are just liability... and the very minimum at that! (not smart, I know).

Dru, DhN has an H22, so he's probably a bit faster than your Escort. It is true though... there are cars out there that are engineered to be a bit sportier than our Accords... the CB7 was never really intended to be sporty in any way. The 3rd generation was the last Accord to get any type of sportscar styling (good suspension, flippy lights which were sporty at the time, hatchback design was also sporty.)

The s2k is probably out of your range in terms of affordability (especailly if your insurance is comparable to the insurance in NJ, which is pretty high). The H22 in the CB7 is nice, but drucifer has a point... there ARE better platforms. I happen to like the CB7 for more reasons than it's sportiness. It has performance potential, but it also has some refined comfort and luxury, clean styling that ISN'T sporty (that's a plus to me... I don't want something that looks like a sports car), room for anything I want to carry (and I've transported LOTS of things...), safety, and good fuel economy. Plus, it's cheap to own, cheap to modify, and the aftermarket is reasonably priced and large enough to keep me happy. Also, I kinda like my fellow enthusiasts

If you want something different... perhaps a little sportier... there are some older, affordable options that have many of the same qualities as the CB7. The 240sx is a good car, RWD, nice swap options (and the KA24DE aftermarket isn't too shabby either), comfort, looks, fair fuel economy... the only downside is that they're a bit overpriced thanks to the drifting craze (thanks, Super Street and Tokyo Drift!). Convertible models exist, if you want to go that route.
Another option, if you don't mind slightly higher repair and upkeep costs, would be the Volvo 740/940. The turbo or twin cam engines make between 150 and 165hp, and they have some nice potential. RWD, stock LSD, comfy as hell, reliable, very common (easy to find used parts), and about as safe as a RWD car can possibly be! They weigh about 3000lbs, so they aren't too far from the CB7 in terms of weight. The non-turbo ones are dogs though... I know that from experience (still a nice ride, but man... no guts whatsoever!)

i'm inclined to say that for someone turning 19 a cb7 is an ideal car for the time being. fun to drive, parts are inexpensive and insurance is inexpensive. if you really want an s2k, wait till you have financial security and more driving experience. s2k's will still be around when you are ready.

If they're not, then they aren't worth the cost!

What do you want the thread to tell you? Do you want the members to assure you that although you can afford a used S2K you should instead get the H22? Its personal preference and you should think for youself. I do not know your financial standings or situation so I'm just gonna say if you got the S2k now will you regret it later.

                Buy the s2k
swap the engines(forget about everybody saying its RWD, it dosen't matter when your dreaming.)
Make sure your F looks really fucking clean inside the s2k
Sell the s2k to some old hag/mid-life crisis man who doesn't know shit.'

I would actually die laughing if I ever heard of somebody buying a s2k that ended up having a F series engine.

Most of us are in love with the S2K mang. Hell, I am too, and I'm 19 as well. The practicality side of things is what stops me though. The money point has been well driven home at this point. Don't wait till your old to get a sports car, wait until like 22 I think. At least here in the US that's when insurance drops off MASSIVELY providing you have a clean record.

The H22 in the CB7 is an incredible combination. The Accord, while not the lightest platform out there, is lighter than the Prelude the H22 is native to. Another option is dump an H23 (or that other JDM DOHC, non-VTEC engine) into there and turbo the beast. Minor though it may be, you get a small extra bit of displacement, have a REAL reason to be on premium (VTEC notwithstanding) and more than likely will be making somewhere in the ballpark of 220 to 230 hp. Plus you can't beat the sound of a blow-off valve. It's addictive.

                      H22 : $2500

why are we trying to compare these again?
And I think this pretty much sums up what I've been getting at.

As for other platforms to build from, hell just pick a manufacturer and there's bound to be a beaut in the mix! You could go with the MkII, III, or IV Supra (80's models, FTW), Nissan has the 240sx, don't even THINK about Kia or Hyundai, Hell if you wanted one of the best sleeper cars go for a Buick Grandnational GNX. Bad. to. the. BONE! I don't thin insurance would be too bad either.

In closing, my vote goes for modding the CB7. I'm not saying that as part of the crowd, I'm saying that as my practical opinion as an individual. S2k's are gorgeous, just give em a little time first.

Nope, just know before you buy.
If he's comfortable paying $4300/yr for insurance *while his record is clean*, more power to him.

I doubt it would drop south of the border. We're not nearly as litigious as Americans.
