    New iPods Announced Today.

Im honestly slightly disappointed. Not by the features, but by the hard drive options.

    iPod Touch
    8GB ($299)
    16GB ($399)

    Major Features include:
    - Touch screen (like the iPhone)
    - WiFi Capability so you can browse the internet (like the iPhone, but faster!)
    - Widescreen
    - Ships by the end of the month

    iPod Classic
    80GB ($249)
    160GB ($349)

Just like the old 5.5G iPods, but with larger drives, and aluminum shells. New Coverflow App added. Ships Today.

    iPod Nano
    4GB ($149)
    8GB ($199)

    Major Feature Changes
    - Video capability Added
    - Coverflow app added
    - Ships Today.

    iPod Shuffle

Essentially unchanged, aside from the new colors.

ALSO, iPhone price drop to $399 for the 8GB model, 4GB model got the axe.

Let me find one. They are thin though, thinner than the iPhone.

EDIT: no pictures of the side, but Its 8mm thin.(or thick, depending on how you look at it.)

      EDIT: got one.

I just got a new iPod last month (with full knowledge of new models being imminent.) I might sell it and get the 16gb touch. Ill wait til those are released to make up my mind though.

Yes. It is exactly what everyone was predicting Apple wouldnt do. Release an iPhone without the Phone.

I'm glad they did it! I want one... though I'm still not much of an Apple fan. The WiFi capability and large touchscreen make it a very attractive item. The drive sizes are fairly small, but it's not bad.

Now all they have to do is release a 100gig version that's capable of running a mobile OS.
I've had an Ipaq for years, and it's terribly obsolete. If Apple took the next step and created a handheld computer similar to the ipod, they'd really push things forward!

Of course, music and internet... that's all I use my computer for anymore anyway!

Im sure if you give it a year of two, they will have released that. However, Apple did that quite a few years ago with a nifty little device called the Newton. Lets just say, it bombed pretty terribly, so Im sure if, and when, they do it, its going to have to be pretty much perfect. However, I would expect it to be based on the iPod Touch when it does happen, and feature a fairly features complete version of OS X, most likely without a desktop.

Technically, the iPhone IS what youre asking for Deev, its just not marketed as a computer, its marketed as a phone, and its hard drive capacity is less than ideal. However, this is because of its flash based hard drive, and 16 gigs is actually an impressively sized flash drive, especially for the price of the product. (The iPhone still only has 8 gigs, although Id assume that will change before Christmas time).

Im leaning pretty heavily towards getting one now that Ive assessed my actual needs for an iPod type device. I have an 80gb 5.5gen right now, and its barely half full (and a large part of that is TV shows which are unnecessary.)

I installed Vista on my Macbook Pro a few days ago because I need it to run Visual Basic for a programming class Im taking.

lets just say I felt dirty while doing so.
