Harbor Freight engine hoists... Any experience with them?

I'm about to buy an engine hoist from Harbor Freight. I've been dying for one, and I have 2 cars that need engine replacement (my A20A is DONE, and I have a new one on my front porch... my current H22 is holding on like a champ, but it's pretty tired, and should be replaced)

Anyway, I'm taking the $50 that my aunt so generously gave me for Christmas, plus $65 in change... and skipping lunch for a couple days... and buying a $130 folding hoist from Harbor Freight. (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=93840)
Just a 1 ton hoist, but Honda engines don't weigh even close to 500lbs (which seems to be the max weight for the furthest boom setting)

Has anyone ever used this particular one? I know it's quite cheap, especially for a folding piece... Can I expect it to last for a while?

Also, will it fit in my CB7 to get it home from the store? I don't want to go all the way to Vineland (a good 25-30 minutes away), buy it, and discover that it won't fit! I did that with a hood once... not fun.

    yeah....they're cheap...

and the frame of them are good

you dont have to spend $300-$500 for a good hoist.

thats a good hoist..BUT...if you do alot of overhauls...you will have to replace the cylinder..they tend to leak over a period of time...

but other than that...its a good hoist!

OH YEAH....make sure you get the extra long lever for it!

and NO Mike...it wont fit in your CB....if you have a truck..it will fit!

the one I had...the bottom legs DIDN'T fold..just the arm

I think this one folds completely.

there is a harbor freight in NE philly at Franklin Mills mall. It might be closer and cheaper, even after toll.

I was thinkg about buying one, but i didnt just bc i didnt have to. If you do buy one with one of those rocker things that lets you tilt the engine by turning a hoist thing. click on This and watch the video, youll know what im talking about.

The cylinder will probably leak. I am using my uncles porta-power body puller/pusher thing, and its leaking and i havent used it that much and neither has he.

so overall its a good hoist if it isn't used much? I need to buy one soon since tax time is coming around and i plan on buying a h23vtec and build it up
          Maple50175 - you're annoying =P

Yea, the wheels break on all the cheaper ones.

Do you have a schucks/kragens/checkers? They sell hoists. I have one of them along with the engine stand. It works fine.

It might fit if you take out your back part of the rear seat as well as your passenger seat. Put it in through the trunk and slide it all the way in.

We have Pep Boys, but they want $140 for a non-folding one...

I'm gonna go to the one in Vineland because 1.) I hate anywhere near Philly, and 2.) 3% sales tax

Harbor Freight tools and engine hoist are good for your bucks. My cousin and I purchased 2 folding hoist from them. We had them for 2 years now. Never had a problem IMO.

i just bought mine from pepboys for 180 with an extended 1 year warranty, and sent off my $40 rebate, so i only paid 140 for mine. it lifted the f20a with ease, and it folds up when its done. the only thing i heard is the hydraulic sux after a while, but ill just trade it in right before the one year.

I like mine. I don't use it much but it's a good piece of equipment to have around.
