    I'm Not Dead!!!

    .........but my car may be

It was New Years Eve...i had just come back from picking up some stuff from the local Wal Mart, and im getting home, just as i round the corner on the street that my house is on, my oil light comes on. Now...there has been a time or 2 where, if i dont change my oil at 3k or so, itll let me know im getting low(yes i know that means im burning it somewhere)

Anywho...i figure its nothing until i get out and notice the almost solid trail of oil leading from my car back up the road...

I check under the car and theres a pool of about 1/3-1/2 qt of oil, under my car! I start freaking and looking for leaks(did i mention its been like 30 degress outside)Anyway, i clean everything up, i cant find where it scoming from. I tried to hit up some peeps on my messengers and i got a few different ideas. Im pretty sure its not the pan/filter cuz it looks to be coming from above all that so that may count out the pump, im not sure yet. Another idea, thank you Zach, was a retainer clip(???) I forget the details exactly, but that may be it. There appeared to be no coolant in the oil, so hopefully thats a good thing.

    Now....get this.....

As im prepping to move my car from in front of the house to across the street(stupid mail lady) I check my oil level, its pretty low...i add a few qts and start her up to see if i can eye the leak myself--no dice. However, while im under there looking i see somethingnew leaking. I think its a new oil leak----PS fluid is coming out of the top of the PS fluid reservoir....

    Fuck it.....

So i clean her up...and prep to move across the street. I turn the key to ACC and put her in N etc etc...(she's not even on, just in ACC), i get to moving her, and mind you i dont have to turn the wheel much, but as im pushing, its still leakingPS fluid!

So...from what i can tell, PS either needs to be flushed and/or new pump, and i gotta source out that oil leak.

My main concerns are the pumps...both are belt driven and if they have to be changed, may have to do TB/WP--again. I did the TB/WP like 30k ago...

Egh.....it wasnt exactly how i planned on spending my New Year....If shes totalled, ima part out or have to junk her. Ill do my best to pull what i can, and ill keep everyone updated.

Just thought id settle everyone's nerves and inform that I am, in fact, still alive.....

Just replace that motor! or rebuild it... Doesn't cost that much! The PS and stuff are cheap as well. Cheaper than another car, for sure!

The PS sounds like you need a new pump.

Careful that shit winds up enough without oil your gonna hear a loud bang and it will be either the motor from the oil pump or the powersteering pump or both. lol Shit happens its an old car life goes on replace it yaknow Hmm oil light came on huh sounds to me like that pump is about to die.

Or maybe you havent been keeping up with it and the oil light just came on to remind you. Most of the time most of our cars dont do that and happen to catch it just in time count your blessings it did. Last thing you need to do is check your oil and find metal shavings on the dipstick. Well whatever the case may be dont drive your car until you completely diagnose and completely fix your problem with your car. Dont be on that imma bandaid it and fix it later becuase if you do you may find yourself stranded or really paying for it in the end.

i iwsh i could replace the motor!! shit even just a new f22 would be nice. even if it had like 100k on it....ivefound whole f22a6's online for like 900-1100. I just gotta come up with the dough first...

And i aint driving it nowhere. it was pretty low on oil when i checked it but i was able to fit like 2.5 qts in there so....its going somewhere...ima have it towed to the shop sometime this week and we'll go from there.

I dunno how expensive the actual pump itself is, but i know the labor on those things can be extensive....

Well you can go to a local junkyard a f22a6 is 200 -250 bucks the labor to swap it out though is like 500-800 out here. As for the p/s pump thats 80-100 for a new pump for the part. As for the labor if your mechanically experienced you can do it yourself easily with the right tools ofcourse. Or you can just ask a local member to help you out.

I sold two F22A1s in my past... one for $50 (my original... good condition) and one for $350 (from my DX wreck... also in good condition)

Easier said than done my friend....

the nearest member, to my knowledge, that would be willing to help me do a swap lives 2 hours away...That means id either have to have tools and parts here + plus pay them for time/gas --or-- find some way of getting my car that 2 hours away, still paying them for time/tools....not to overthink, but IMO itd be cheaper to just have a local shop/yard do the swap...

And as for you, "Mr. Deev"..

                i keed, i keed

I would kill to find an a6 with decent mileage. If my car is totaled or if a fix is gonna cost more than like 1k, than, yeah, ima start checking local ads, shops, yards, etc.

Its just that for whatever the cost, up to about $200, im at the mercy of a 3rd party, ie; my father.....

anyway...i havent heard anything concrete, but i know he's like me, in that he's either gonna opt out if itll cost more than 1k or he'll tell me to start checking locals for a new engine..

either way...id really like to stick with this body/car, but if i have no other choices, as stated above, i'll chop and part what i can or just junk it or sell "as is" for like $200....
