    NHRA kill switch

by drag race at the track what do you mean? cuz my friend took his truck to the track before and he doesnt have any type of kill switch.

is it a new rule? or you racing more legit than joe blow?

if it doesnt have to be a certain switch like in rules somewhere, then just go to autozone and get a fighter pilot type switch and wire it in. you just splice it in wherever.

theres lots of threads on here about killswitches in general
    main relay
    fuel pump
i guess you could do your positive cable on the battery
Edit: well no you couldn't because your alternator would be good.

I don't know if its a new rule.I'm not a all out drag racer, just do it for fun with my DD.they guy told me if i had my batt in the trunk i needed to hook up a kill switch.I searched but all the ones I found are people doing it for security reasons (car alarm).I'm looking for some info on
how exactly I need to hook it up.I went to autozone and picked up a switch to 12 bucks

Hmm well if you do hook it up to the positive cable it will cut the power coming from the battery but it doesn't change anything. My positive terminal came undone once when I was driving I didn't notice anything until I got out and my car didn't lock. So I dont really see the point.

emergency fuel cut off is the only thing that would be reasonable to me.
I say just put that switch in your center console and say it's a kill.

I'm pretty sure the type he means needs to be externally accessible too.

How many amps is the switch you got rated for?
IIRC you need at least a 100A switch on the main line to run the starter.

It has to be mounted in the outside rear of the car.I have unhooked my positvive cable before with my car running and my car didn't turn off,so I dnt really know how I would hook it up

100 amps continuous, 1000 surge at 12 volts; 50 amp continuous, 500 amps surge at 24 volts

                Yea thought so.
The point isn't to kill the car, It's to kill the battery sending power to a shorted out main cable, which can cause a fire in the event of an accident.

It is not a new rule, you also need a battery box. It needs to kill the car when turned off. You can either google "drag kill switch" and a million things will pop up or check the handbook for official rules. There are a couple different ways to do it, if I remember right my main power and also my fuel pumps power are killed with the switch so the motor will shut off. That may not be 100% correct but it will pass tech inspection at the track. Here is a pic how I mounted mine, when I dont want to use it I can simply remove and slide my license plate over and its hidden.

Yeah, I've heard the same thing to. If you relocate your battery to the trunk you need a kill switch and battery tray to be able to race. I like how Sordz did his, that is very slick!

pretty sick, so you only need it if you relocated the battery then?

Honestly the cars in storage in another state and it was done 6 years ago and I cant remember exactly without looking at it. You should be able to find some diagrams online from other people who have done it on other cars and go from there. Plus I have 2 fuel pump setup and custom wiring so it might not be the same, cant be much more help sorry. Good luck though, take some pics as you do it for a DIY if you have time.

Ok so this is how I'm thinking of doing it.run the cable from the battery to the kill switch mounted at the rear of the car an then all the way back to the starter
