    1.8T vs M3

    Well well........

I was coming back from taking my girl friend to school and i am in her stock 99 Passat 1.8T auto. I am taking the long way home on the highway b/c we don't driver her car much. So i am driving along...then i see this red M3 ("new") with some tent and chrome rims. Well anyways if takes me a full pulls on him and traffic to clear before he bites. Well i put it in self shift and i am in 3rd around 70mph. i hear him open it up. i lay on it. dead even i am like FUCK YEAH!!! go VW go!!! i hit fourth around 100mph and he starts to pull on me a bit and i am trying to stay on his tail. But traffic comes up and we slip a car and then we both lay off and traffic picks back up. But a STOCK auto 1.8T passat hanging with an M3 i was pissing my pants with joy. DTM power

Im not saying your a liar or anyting but this is hard to believe that a 1.8 turbo automatic can even come come close to hanging with a M3 im guessing you raced an e46 M3 that pushing out 330hp stock. So theres no way a 1.8 turbo can even come close to an M3

Usually I give people the benefit of the doubt, but I'm sorry there is just no way that happened. The M3 runs like a 13 flat stock, and the vw might run a 15 something at best. Maybe it was a 300 series BMW or something, or he definitely wasn't racing you.

agree....M3 driver probably had his cruise control on while you were pushing the shit out of the VW. But hey, I wasn't there

                ok you doubt me? enjoy

                Comparison,

                2003 VW passat:

                Power: 170 hp
                Taken from:
                http://cars.about.com/od/familycars/...at_t4_test.htm

Curb weight: 1600 kg (3527 lb.)
                Taken from:
                http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/rr/04passat.htm

Power to weight ratio of .05

                Now the competition, BMW m3:

                Power: 333 HP
                Taken from: http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/M/M3Coupe/techdata.htm

                Unladen weight: 3415 lbs
                Taken from: http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/M/M3Coupe/techdata.htm

Power to weight ratio of: .098

Ok so based on these numbers we see the M3 would have little trouble owning the passat. Now lets consider the fact that this passat has 20 more hp than the 1999 you said you were in, so with a max hp for the 1999 of 150 hp
                Taken from: http://www.edmunds.com/used/1999/vol....6.Volkswagen*

And a weight of: 3122 lbs.
                Taken from: http://www.edmunds.com/used/1999/vol....6.Volkswagen*

Your car has a power to weight ratio of .049
The power to weight ratio difference between the m3 and your vehicle is .098-.049=.049, making the m3, acceleration twice as fast as your passat. enjoy

Given these facts, ontop of the fact that you are automatic, it is clear the m3 would have no trouble winning.

yeah it would be hard to believe a passat ran wit a M3, those things are the truth. i ran one of those things, mistake, and he pulled like three car links in first before i hit second, thing is serious

Interesting thread...My 2 cents, key words were rolling @ 70mph and turbo was spooled up so do not be so quick to throw the BS flag. ITs not like it pulled off from a dead stop where the 1/4 mile time actually means something...

Its fact, turbo cars are nasty as hell from a rolling start. However, I am sure that the M3 will really put it on you from lower rolling speed start.

being the owner of an 02 passat, i can believe this happened.
for one, your 1/4 mile time doesnt mean that much from a rolling start and esp not from 70ish. so, yeah, he said the m3 still had him, so bah.
regardless, get a chip, an intercooler, an intake, and a bov and do it again.
then well see who pulls on who.

dude turbo spooled blah blah, great so he was actually using his full potential with 150 hp, guess what the m3 has over double that, not to mention that them3 has a top speed at 160, and the passat tops out at around 130..... nodoubt the m3 would rape the passat, look at the power to weight ratio as well. no way man
