    Junior's build thread

Junior91. If you don't know him, keep it that way. lol

Anways, he finally bought Kelton's old cb for $400. He thought something was up with either the trans or the throwout bearing so he threw in a spare trans and new t/o bearing with the car, as well as the old trunk.

Anyways, picked it up on Feb 17th, I think. The first thing we did was go straight to Alex's house for a trunk swap. When we got it, it had Cory's old 9293 trunk/lights and Alex has been looking for some 9293 tails since he had already bought a 9293 trunk in his color. He had some red/clears that Junior wanted so we did a straight swap that night. We then took the car home and the car made it just fine.

Things that we found wrong with it thus far:
-funky noise coming from transmission area
-throttle plate sticks nearly every time
-bouncy idle once in a while
-way too low for Yakima roads
    -no stereo
-pulls to the right A LOT
    -shakes at nearly all speeds

Besides those, the engine feels pretty healthy.

    Engine mods:
    -F22A4
    -DC header
-Zachs old exhaust(looks to be 2.25")
    -short ram
    -ghetto drl's
    -minor oil leaks

The plan was to take the transmission off and replace it with the one provided by Kelton. Well, on Wednesday, Junior wanted to take the car to his work to paint the hood black(he works at a body shop). The car broke down 7 blocks down. I went to go look at it and it wouldn't turn on anymore, and it wouldn't go into any gears.

Yoshi(another Yakima mexican), if you haven't met him either it's because you haven't been to Yakima. Only Alex has met him. Anyways, he's Junior's butt buddy and is always around and also happens to have a pick up truck. So we call him to come and tow Junior's car back to my house. We call it a night and decide we would take it apart Thurs. morning.

Thursday comes around and Junior and Yoshi are at my door at 8am(funny, as how they can't ever get up this early for school or anything else). They make me get dressed and go start working in the fucking cold. Assholes.

I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

    Yoshi taking shit apart

    Junior getting it from behind

The front mount is TOTALLY fucked. The rest of the mounts aren't in great shape either.

We got it out and first thing we took off was the crank pulley since we were selling it to someone that needed it locally.

    mmmm, gunked oil

    Yoshi loves my cack.

Then Junior decides he wants to do a wire tuck. So we take the fenders off.

We drain the oil. It was dark. Darker than Zack.

Then we finally decide to take the transmission off the engine only to find this.

Is that a torque converter? No way, that's the flywheel IN the transmission.
Take a look at the crank

Me and Yosh trying to get the flywheel/clutch out of the trans

    Finally got it out

Close up of the FUCKED up flywheel bolts

    from the other side

Look at all the metal shavings in there

The clutch disc has plenty of meat left on it

We have a spare engine to work with, so we don't have to touch that fucked up crank.

The plans as of right now are to replace every gasket/seal on the motor, h23 IM/TB, phenolic IM gasket, ps/cc delete.

Just going to keep it as a good DD for now. He's probably going to swap an H later down the road, or [have me] build the single cam.

I want to see what becomes of this as I was wondering which way he would go with this CB.

I don't think so. I think it may be just some fabric thread or something. I'll check when I get a chance.

Oh jesus! I hope that is not what happened to mine.
Nah, there is no way that could have happened to me. At least I can drive mine by rev-matching all shifts.

                    Sorry for ranting.

is this why it is not recommended to reuse flywheel bolts?

I don't see how that would save you in this case, you have to stop eventually.

Well, while the car was running, it would grind really bad going into pretty much ever gear. Rev matching made it much easier.

I like documenting other's projects. I hardly ever document anything of mine. But I also didn't help TOO much with this because this isn't my project, but Junior's. And he needs to learn how to do everything by himself like I did. Except he actually has someone to help. I was there telling them how to do shit pretty much though.

I've never heard about that, but it would make sense. I've reused mine with all my 4 motors. You just gotta remember to torque the hell out of them each time. Using some loctite helps too.

Was it possible to hold it in gear with the clutch pedal pressed in?
