Our Snapper Hatchling "Frankie" (2-3 weeks old)

I found a Snapper Hatchling trying to cross the frontage road near where I live and, after having a look around to see if there were others he may be trying to follow to water, we brought him home and setup a habitat.

Here are a couple of pictures of him;







The pet store near here has a girl who is considered to be an expert on turtles, she says he was only a few days to a week old when I brought him in (the day I found him). The pictures were taken a few days after we got him. He now has a much cooler setup (I'll take pictures later).

Anyways, this is our friend Frankie! Named after Franklin, the cartoon turtle that my son likes to watch.

Lol. He's tiny as hell. Someone else on here found one by their house too and made him a pet lol. Theirs was a Sulcata Tortoise.

He really is! His shell is almost as big around as a 50 cent piece.. but he'll get 20"+ (shell diameter) and could weigh as much as 100lbs! That'll take many years, though. He'll grow to around 3-5" in year one, and up to 8" through year 2 and he'll slowly get larger for the rest of his life. I've read that these guys have lived 40+ years in captivity!

I'll probably be old and grey when this guy checks out

Snappers and Alligator Snappers have really long tails. He likes to curl his around his side when he sleeps... he also uses it when he turns while swimming.

those things are cool as hell. had a few a while back. they're mean little bastards sometimes too. be careful.

I hear ya, people keep telling me he'll bite my limbs off if I'm not careful when he gets bigger. Believe me, I won't be picking him up bare-handed when he's bigger.

For now, he's pretty gentle.. he likes being held (as far as I can tell), but he does sometimes nip at the side of the tank when people hold their finger up to him

I've got a pair of 55gal aquariums and will hopefully be moving him into one this coming weekend. I just need to find a good lid that'll let me use his clamp lights and filters while leaving room to feed him, use the gravel vacuum and take him out/put him back in the tank

That's an alligator snapper, not a common. Adult common snappers look like this;
