ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    That nasty Chrome!

I personally am not a chrome fan unless VIP status...

Anyhow, the chrome trim around our windows, etc. Instead of polishing (TypeG Status) or even taking off/masking up, prepping for painting, why not cover up???

Currently working (or at least trying to) rid that damn chrome that discolors/tarnishes, etc. with vinyl!

Adheasive backed vinyl. The same material decals are cut out of. Using a matte black color of course for that "blackend" look.

    Stay tuned.

Get on some BMW boards like e30tech.com and bimmerforums, and search for 'shadowlining'.

way, way, way, way better end result than what you are doing. you take it off, sand it, spray with black trim paint, etc. there are lots of detailed step-by-steps on how to do it

here is one great one with pictures etc

            Tips:

1.) Don't do this if you have a hot date later in the evening. This takes a lot of time and patience to do it right, so set aside the entire day to do it. Besides, your date probably won't even notice the blacked-out trim anyway.

5.) When placing the newspaper on your car, try to use sections that you are interested in, such as sports, entertainment, car classifieds, local news, etc. That way you can read the latest headlines while you wait for the paint to dry :-).

Imma gonna do this tomorrow (saturday)

technically the trim is stainless steel, not chrome. there is a company that makes a vinyl blackout kit for trim. it's very similar to electrical tape. that's what i would use since you can peel it off if your tastes changes. later.

That's what I meant, stainless steel. Had a brain cramp.

Vinyl would be identical with the removing whenever desired.

So it looks like this kinda died out...Did you guys do this???

I blacked out my stainless last winter when I repainted my cb. I cleaned all the stainless up real good with a wax and grease remover, scuffed it with a red scotchbrite, primed it, sanded it smooth, sprayed it matte black, and clear coated it with PPG's Soft Touch clearcoat. It's a two part clear that dries flat and feels like rubber. It's pretty cool stuff and will protect the color from UV rays and solvents.

The only advantage to using vinyl (other than being able to remove it) is that it may be more resistant to flying debris "removing" it. I actually used bumper coating (satin black) on mine and after 1000 miles and even some rain/snow it's still on there.

The black trim looks way better, imo. I don't know if I'd want to use vinyl though. I just painted mine flat black.

                            Your car looks amazing!

                            I want!

(please tell me you have a VTEC motor though...)

Oh by the way If you want to black it with vinyl, id say try electrical tape... Its the same stuff, and you can just run down the trim with a knife to cut it to size... Just an Idea... Don't know if it would work...
