ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Question about exhaust rusting....

Has anyone ever heard of tying in with a breaded wire or sorts from the exhaust to the body of the car to aid in the slowing down or almost no rust on the exhaust pipe?

I heard that is maybe what the cop cars have done in the years past to aid in this problem from a few people. Is this an old wives' tale or is there truth here and we could all use this knowledge to better our cars.

    TIA

If you can powder coat the inside of the pipe...
stainless is the way to go.

It used to be you could by a kit to send a small electronic charge through the whole car to prevent rust. I can't say if it worked or not, but since your whole car is grounded, I don't see it being viable. Just go stainless.

Your car isn't grounded, your car is bonded.

Explain, please? In all my years (over 26 at this point) of working on cars, I've never heard the term bonded in reference to a car. My old MGB referred to it as earth, instead of ground, but never bonded. I'm assuming you're talking about the fact that it never actually grounds to earth, just back to the battery.

I don't think a car is considered a bonded system. As a telecom installer, everything I built in a switching environment had to be bonded. Bonding equalizes the electrical potential in a building, so you don't get shocked if you touch two different pieces of metal with different potentials (for telecom, it also protected against lightning by carrying the charge to earth instead of to the equipment). In order for a system to be bonded, you need a hot leg, an earth (or ground) leg and then a neutral leg.

Having a battery "ground", and being grounded are two very different things, as you've already pointed out.

Layman toss around terms quite freely, as I'm sure you're well aware.

Car chassis's are the ground for the DC circuit of the cars electrical system. They are not grounded.

                      I call semantics!

I see what you're saying. I should have said that since the entire car was already part of the vehicles electrical circuit... blah blah blah.

And congrats on almost 1000 posts!
