Is it possible to get the same light output by changing the stock bulbs to the Xenon HID bulbs? and Not hook up a HID ballast? I'm low on cash, and I really want the "blue" type lights on my Accord. Will the Xenon HID bulbs give me the same output, or if not worse but better than stock bulbs? Thanks.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

HID bulbs? without an HID kit?

The blue color of HID bulbs is not what gives you the higher light output. HID bulbs will not work without ballasts. If you really want the blue look, you can get yourself a set of normal 9006 bulbs with the bluish tint to them. output will not be great however and wont be comparable to HID's.
For HID's, OEM spec bulbs used in acura's, bmw's and so on are 4300k, which is the kelvin temperature of the bulb. This technically gives you the most useable light, meaning the amount of light output on the road. At the same time, if you would use a 4300k set up in your car, you would not have a blueish look to your cars headlights if you are using the original refllector lenses. The reason that these luxury cars today have that nice blue/purple flicker in their headlights is due to the fact that they are using projectors, whith razor sharp cut-off shields. It is the cutoff shild that creates the flicker and color you see in these cars' headlights. When you go higher to 6000k and so on, you get a bluer color but less useable light as you go up the scale. Many people have 6000k and still get a good amount of light output out of them, and you will now have the blue color you want, even in you stock headlights. I have 8000k and I get an excellent light output out of them, but I've noticed my 8000k is not quite as blue as others I have seen.
Anyways I hope this helps you out a little bit. Also HID plug n play kits are easy to find for pretty cheap these days if you really want, you can save up and buy a conversion kit. Otherwise if you want the true HID in projectors, the you can do a projector retrofit into your stok headlight. This would be a time consuming task and would require more money and skill, but in the end would be definately worth it. There are many DIY's on it and you can read up on it there if you want.Last edited by vinbon63; 12-20-2008, 09:44 AM.

no selling in the beginner forums buddy. youll be banned when a mod sees this.Originally posted by mahtogje View Postyou can use one ballast for 2 bulbs it will give you the same thing just not super bright i actually got one for sale by the way if you trying to get it
and one ballast for two bulbs is a dumb idea. if you cant afford to do it right just dont do HIDs. youll want to get a harness so you dont burn out your wiring with an HID kit too.
if you want to go cheao on HIDs just go on ebay. you can get a kit for about $70. and a harness goes for $15. $85 and you have HIDs. if thats too expensive for you then maybe you should look into finding another hobby. knitting is fairly inexpensive, i hear.

Do you really need a relay harness in our cb when installing a HID kit?Sig removed due to excessive size

yes. unless you want to fry the stock wiring. hids draw almost twice the power of normal halogen bulbs when warming up. thats too much power for our old wiring to handle. the relay harness draws power straight from the battery to prevent this. its 15 bucks. much cheaper and easier than replacing your whole harness.
dont get me wrong. it will work without the harness. but the chances of ruining something expensive and difficult to replace is too high for my liking. well see people on here saying 'i dont have a harness and it works fine for me' very soon im sure. trust me. just get the harness. its less than the price of a tank of cheap gas.Last edited by Jonas; 12-20-2008, 10:32 AM.

Looks like I'll have to be savin up some money for an HID kit. I've talked it over with my pops and he said it'll be a good idea, just cuz the price of buying another stock bulb would be half of an HID kit, so why not just buy an HID kit. Thanks guys. A really big help on my CB7 project

Sounds good to me. How hard would it be to retrofit some projectors?Originally posted by Jonas View Postthose are garbage. the light output on those aftermarket proejctor lights is terrible. they might be passable with hids in them. honestly though if you want projectors get oem projectors and do a retrofit.Student at NTI
