ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    front Hood question?

Hi guys Mercy boy here...I was wondering if there is any chance of the measurements of the front hood....Length x width...i just need the answer, cause instead of buying a real carbon hood..im just going buy a self-adhesive 3D twill-weave carbon fiber vinyl sheet That you stick on your stock hood..

plus another question should i put it on with the wax coating on the hood or just try to strip of the wax to stick it on better...let me know

    Don't.
Nobody is going to appreciate a fake cf sticker on your hood. In many circles, it's going to get you made fun of and called the "R" word.

If you still insist on doing it, remove the wax with a good strong cleaner or you'll end up with adhesion issues. You're going to want about two yards by two yards so you can wrap the edges over.

if there's nothing wrong with your stock hood... just leave it alone and save up until you can afford a carbon hood. or you can buy one used.

Honestly, if you're only going for looks.. wrapping it will be cheaper, more solid (real CF hoods can be flimsy, and some have latching issues), and fitment will obviously be perfect.
Is it "ricey"? Sure... but if you do it well enough that it looks real, then I see nothing wrong with it. Getting an expensive lightweight hood for 'weight savings' on an otherwise underpowered and overweight family sedan is just as "ricey", IMO.

However, if you're going to wrap it... why not go out and measure your hood yourself, rather than asking for measurements? I don't believe anyone here knows them offhand, so they would need to go outside to their own car and measure themselves... something you're perfectly capable of doing with your own!
visualpoet has the right idea. Buy more than you need to ensure you do it right. Cleanly wrap the edges.

Talk to BilleK. He seems to wrap a lot of shit in CF.

Agreed. I personally don't hang out in any "circles" and pretty much just drive to work and back, and I'd do it if I had, say, a really bad faded and peeling hood or something. Sh*t, I've thought about completely wrapping my coupe in vinyl before the wreck happened (not carbon, mind you).

I'd say 2x2 yards is good.

Hell, I've seen a 5th gen prelude with a wrapped hood in "dry" carbon vinyl....looked amazing.

Why not just do a legit CF wrap? With the actual fabric stuff and resin so it's insanely rigid?

                  1) because that would be very expensive, and 2) because that wouldn't increase the rigidity of the steel hood.

i have been asked to wrap a hood in CF and with what the real carbon fiber and resin and other materials needed would cost, you can buy a real carbon fiber hood.

If your tight on money to be thinking of wrapping your hood in vinyl, I say if you think it looks good than go for it, it's your car and you're going to be looking at it everyday. But whichever way you decide to do I want to see the wrapped pictures. Good Luck.

I bought my VIS CF hood for 100 bucks on Craigslist and just had it recleared. The guy thought it was damaged lol. Try searching for a deal on the forums, CL or wherever, someone has to have one.

Imitation is never as good as the real thing.
