ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    glass etching

It been a while but I have seen glass etching on on cups and bar mirrors.
but my question is if you did a glass etching on the front of our glass head lights how would it effect the light and sight distance. small simple design not the hole head light.

for you that don't know what glass etching is

Draw a design to size that you're thinking about going with on some wax paper. Apply it with clear masking tape to the headlight(s) and drive around at night to see how your illumination is affected. Wax paper is the closest thing I can think of, but there may be a closer alternative.

I have seen it done on new Corvettes. It was on the bottom edge of the light so didn't mess with the light out put. It look good and I have thought about trying it on my old headlights. Here is a pic I had.

If you have a spare light or don't mind shelling out cash, you could get one from a junkyard along with an etching machine or simple scribe to play around with to see what effects it will produce.

Wax paper is opaque, so it would obstruct the light even more... however, if the output is decent with the paper, then it should be fine with etching.

It's an interesting idea. I don't know how I'd like the look of it, but I'd be curious to see it done, just to see something different.

Etched glass is opaque as well, unless I'm thinking of something different.

Ah yes, that's very true. I wasn't picturing large patches. I had a fine-line design in my head, like the Corvette lights posted above. With large etched patches like that, the wax paper is a perfect idea.

I just got an image of a stylized off-center rising sun design on each headlight... that would look pretty rad...

A thin design like the Corvette posted would probably not effect light output at all, even if it's in the smack dab middle of the headlight. But if it's a larger, more detailed design, it definitely will have some effect. Snake... don't keep us guessing, what design/logo are you thinking?

I'm anxious to see what you got planned.Another option I think may work is to apply a thin coat of Elmers glue to the lens, let it dry, then etch away on it.The glue should dry pretty clear and wouldn't obscure light too much and it should easily peel off the glass lens also.

This may be a more attainable solution:

                      http://www.amazon.com/Etched-Glass-W...ef=pd_sim_hi_3

It is removable and you can modify the design at will.

I thought only JDM one piece head lights were glass and USDM headlights were still plastic? I could be wrong but I swear I read this somewhere. I like the idea of etching the lens though if they are glass and maybe Deeve could even sell CB7tuner lenses

The USDM headlight housings are plastic but the lenses are glass.

As for glass etching, I know I've seen small glass etching kits at the local Hobby Lobby that maybe worth a shot. I believe they also sell blank stencil material to make your own.
