ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Painting emblem advice

my plan is to have the H still chrome but instead of the black around it have it color matched to the car. So now that the black is gone my question is...

In order to not see the sanding marks through the polished front of the plastic, to what grit should I sand the back side which is what will be painted in order not to see those marks but for the paint to still grip? Its sanded with 400 right now.

then i see my baby, suddenly I'm not crazy,
It all makes sense when i look into her eyes

Wow, I've never seen anyone get that part off before! I always wanted to do that!
I'd say a very fine grit would be best. Perhaps some plastic polishing compound. TypeG will be able to advise you much better than I could, as he's done damn near all you can do to the various polishable surfaces in the CB!

I'm replying more so that I can subscribe to the thread and see the final outcome!

So you think the paint would stick if I polished the back side of the plastic? Just use some adhesion promoter? Oh and I just used 220 I think

Give it a scuff with like some 800 or 1000 grit. Use some adhesion promoter, primer, paint, clear. The surface doesn't need to be rough, just needs a light scuff to atleast give something for the paint to grip without running off.

Like Deev said, that's really cool I've never seen anyone do that before. I like.

Ok can't use primer though I'm painting the back side of it so whatever I lay down will show through the front.
Get some paint tomorrow. Gotta get that paint code though. Anyone know the rosewood off hand? I know its on the door but just to double check.

You'll need primer or it won't stick. Paint the outside. I know it won't give you the cool see through effect you're going for, but it won't work.

You can try with just paint, but go in really, really light coats. I still don't think it'll adhere very well. I would try some adhesion promoter though if you don't use primer. It's clear, so it may just work.

You dont need primer. Ive done this twice to emblems. Sanded the inside color off with green scotch brite. Cleaned. Then used Honda red touch up paint from o'reilys. The paint fills in the scratches, and still has a gloss look from the outside.

I did that with my grille emblems a few months back to fix the paint that got ripped off when I removed them did you use acetone (less time consuming, more effective for small regions) to remove the paint or did you sand it off? How badly are the scuff marks from the outside? If anything, leave it scuffed so the paint can stick, you could do 1000 for a lil bit if you really must. But if you paint it black or some darker color, it won't matter as you won't see it. Don't need primer or anything, its protected by the clear portion and its gonna be sealed when you affix it to something so the paints not gonna get bothered. So just lay it on its front, get a spraypaint can and blast away. Don't overthink it too much!

Closest color match I found was desert sand mica that replaces a toyota color

Yah I was thinking about doing that for my type R grille behind the accord emblem. But I would have to probly hook up a switch to it so I could flip it off for cops or whatever. too much work. But I guess the sable has that light across the whole front.
