ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Steam cleaning the engine bay

So my dad got this steam cleaner today (he wants to use it to clean crap off the oven, etc.) and I figured well...I can use this on my engine. I have only tried it on a small area and it took off a small amount of dirt, but not all of it. Will the steam be more effective if i first spray some sort of chemical on the engine parts, or am I just doomed to bust out the toothbrush?

Truthfully what i do is i spray the entire engine bay down with some Castrol's Super Clean, let it soak for 5 minutes and then hose it off..My engine bays look MINT!...repeat if needed for grimey ass engine bays...

i would imagine that letting engine degreaser sit on the dirt would help loosen the majority of it up, you could try "GUNK Engine Degreaser GEL" let it sit for a while (whatever it says on the can) then go over it with the steam cleaner

no!!! Don't do it! You'll get water in places you never thought it could go! It could be a disaster. Plus it could take off a lot of finish that may be under the dirt and grime.

If he constantly sprays a ton of water in the electrical system then yes but a few light spray here and there should not be any problem. And if you are able to take off the finish from the engine then I'd say thats some cheap paint. Have you done this before? Have your engine paint peeled or came off? I am guessing you have not used Simple Green (or equilalent) before.

those are both exactly what i do.

let degreaser soak then use the pressure washer. for my coupe's bay, i just let the gun run lightly, water only. only have to rinse it down

and i use brake cleaner outside, but if im washing it in the sink i usually use gojo.
