ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Well I didnt sand mine I just used some paint stripper and scrubbed it and it got everything right off.

Then i just put a couple coats of engine paint on it, and it lasted for a while

Its still good and I did it a couple months ago. So i hoped that helped a little..

I think I would, remove it, then use some paint stripper

        OR

Use some 80-120 grit sandpaper and some elbow grease and work off all the loose paint. Prime. Then cover the Honda lettering with tape. Then use some high temp black spray paint from a distance. Spray with the cloud so it doesn't accumulate and drip. Do multiple light coats, use the lightest coats you can to avoid drip. Allow about 10 minutes between coats or more if you're not outside or if you're painting in high humidity.

Once its done put it somewhere sheltered to cure overnight, or a whole day. Then paint the Honda lettering by hand in white.

I would like to do it someday, but if I had to drive the car, I would need a replacement valve cover in the mean time.

Perhaps a colored and clear lacquer, but I don't know what their temperature ranges are.

I've painted some engine parts and I used high temp flat and no clear.

I would befriend a painter like keeleskustom and ask what can be done. He makes some nice valve cover paintings and he knows whats needed to do a good job.

you dont NEED high-temp paint. I've based and cleared valve covers before with no problems. (Also done brake calipers that way). High Temp is overrated, but if youre going to rattle-can it i would get a high-temp since it tends to be a higher quality paint than regular rattle-can stuff.

Sand the cover by hand with some pretty low grit first, like 80. Then go over the whole thign with 220 to smooth it out. Prep the surface with some Prep-All or some kind of degreaser. Make sure the whole cover is VERY clean and free of any debris or grease. Then mask off your holes and paint away!

something a lot easier than taping your honda letters, paint the whole valve cover, then take a fine grit sand paper and just sand the letters, its much easier than taping, did it to my friends eclipse turned out wonderful

Yes... High heat pain is not needed... The key is the prep and how clean the surface is.

I don't know how much your wanting to spend on all this, but as long as your willing to spend the money, powdercoating would be ideal, its rock hard, lasts much longer than paint, and wont scrape off or be affected by heat. I got mine done in wrinkle red for 80 dollars professionally. You could get it redone the stock wrinkle black or whatever, and most places sandblast all the old shit off before the coat it. Just another suggestion.
