ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

box material. need to build a new one

so my uncle and i made a box when i first got my subs. when to home depot to get wood and got the cheapest shit they had because i was broke yet anxious...i believe it was particle board but don't quote me on that. so we put the box together with wood glue and a nail gun and then put the face on with screws in case i ever wanted to change it because i have square subs. so now the box broke on the opposite corners of the face. i think its the material i used. i think i need to use mdf next time or is there something better? and btw the box is sealed.

also i used "table cloth vinyl" to wrap it because it was the only black stuff they had. got it from handcock fabrics and it was on sale. problem is is that the stuff had like a 1/4" padding on it and that made the folds and sealing it a pain. i think next time i just want to spray it with something that will protect the wood and call it a day. i don't care about how it looks and i suck at wrapping anyways lol.

If you don't mind spending a little bit of money, I think it's about 30 or so a sheet, see if you can find the 3/4 mdf they use for counters, it has the white laminate shit on it. Put the white stuff on the inside, and I'd recommend screwing the box together with 1 5/8 inch wood screws, then some caulking on all the seams and joints inside the box.

OP - definitely spend the money for at least 3/4 MDF. with or without the laminate on it. And make sure you build the box correctly, subs need a specific amount of air. Yours should say how much in the manual. You can also find calculators online that will tell you the specs for any kind of box you want to build to match your subs, from a simple sealed enclosure all the way up to a seventh order bandpass.

That link should help you. Tells how to calculate box volume, how to wire up woofers... etc

Well.. 3/4 mdf, glue and screws... If you use something to seal it make sure its safe for rubber so it wont mess up your suround while it dries.

Fiberglass.....3/4 mdf......plexiglass.....it doesn't really matter as long as it can support the sub and contain the airspace it needs.

lol morning wood is always good for a box. But ya 3/4" mdf is what i always thought. I never knew about the white laminate on the inside though...is it better than just standard non-laminated mdf.

i find morning wood is a bit stressed, I prefer to bury my drivers in box comprised of pussywillow.

ive bought used counter top laminate from recyclers. lots cheaper than mdf, and the laminate plastic compinsates for the weakness of the particle board

^^^^the only way to go. on the sealing part as long as you wait the appropriate drying time on the silicone you will not have to concern yourself with the rubber surround part. also regular wood glue is not meant to fill big gaps, so as long as you gaps are tight then you will be fine, and let the glue dry for at least 24 hours prior to applying any silicone or sealing agent to it. good luck on you project and let us know how it turns out.

get some medium density fiber (mdf) and some insulation, gorilla glue, and some wood screws. i counter sync the holes so u cant see the screws and fill them in with some wood putty then router the edges and it looks pretty sharp. oh ya and you might wanna drill holes in the mdf prior to screwing it together as it may split and crack the wood.

Is said you can use MDF or HDF. Depending on the application. For instance it sounds like you may have 10 or 12" solo squares or the new MTX squares. That case you could use the 3/4" MDF or you could use 3/4 HDF (takes more patience to work with) I had a buddy who had an 18" Kicker Solo X and the box had to be made from 5/8" HDF and the face had to be 1" to support the sub.

As far as sealing goes, use CLEAR silicone either i a squeeze tube or in a caulking gun tube. Allow it to dry for at least 2 hrs before mounting the sub and your good to go.
