ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    q's about soundproofing

i didn't know where else to put this since it's in regards to sound , but hear me out . . . .

the quality of soundproofing in newer cars really impresses me , and i wanted to know what kind of materials can i use to increase the lack of sound inside the car ?
i.e. my the tone of my exhaust i love it , but i wanna soundproof the inside of the car to where i don't really hear as much outside , what materials should i use ?

Peel and seal is a cheap HVAC ducting insulation used in construction. A lot of people online use it for sound deadening because it is really similar to Dynamat, B-quiet, Fatmat, etc. in composition (ie, asphalt-rubber mats, although Dynamat and B-Quiet have moved to butyl, which doesn't smell). Some people say it works really well, some say it doesn't do shit and just stinks.

I went the regular Dynamat route and got the Dynamat Extreme bulk pack off of Amazon. It was only $140 and had enough to do both doors (in my prelude) and part of my trunk. It helped some with noise, but the thing about all of the sound deadeners is that they are most useful in controlling the flex and resonance of body panels (they make thing not move so much) and some thermal insulation. My next step is going to be putting 1/4" Dynapad over the top of the Dynamat. Dynapad is a sound absorber also made my Dynamat.

I think that the combination of deadener and absorber will give me the best benefit in the end.

It really comes down to how much you want to spend. Sound stuff is so subjective that you and I could really disagree on how well one thing works over another.

co-sign dynamat seems to be the route most people go, it's prob the best u can do for your situation.

I went with Second Skin Audio's Damplifier Pro, as well as some of their other products, and achieved close to absolute silence. LOL, as close as one can get in a nineteen year old vehicle.
Reason I went with Damplifier Pro was the price and how well it works, that and the huge line of other products they offer.

But there is a difference between soundproofing and sound deadening.

The Dynamat products are CLDs (constraint layer dampers) that lessen the vibrations. These fall in the category of sound deadening.

Then there are actual sound barriers that typically consist of foam and vinyl. The foam acts as a decoupler and the vinyl actually blocks the noise. This would fall in the category of soundproofing.

The best route to achieving good soundproofing is to use a layered approach by using both a CLD and a noise barrier. If you were to cover a panel 25%-50% with a CLD then apply a noise barrier on top of that, you will achieve close to what some of the new cars sound/feel like, maybe even more so.

And there is NO reason to cover every square inch of a panel, it's a waste of product, time, and money to do so. I've been doing this for about three years now and I've seen so many people become disappointed with what it sounds like after applying layers upon layers of vibration mat and achieve nothing. This is what you call diminishing return.

              Hope that helps.

yeah , i found a couple of forums saying it was for roofs (?) and after sitting in the sun , it would smell at first ( which never is good ) . as for price , i'm all for quality . . . . but if there is a cheaper alternative that can work just as well , i'll mcgyver it up ! lol .
frosty - preciate it homie .

sound deadening is more along the lines of what i meant .
imma look into it more before i experience diminishing returns , lol .
if i got anymore questions i'm prolly gonna pm you , so be on the lookout .

Yeah it can be. And I'd hate to sound like a salesman, but Second Skin just came out with a "Lite" version that costs less and yet performs very well. Might want to take a look at it.
