ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    Problem With bass

    Hello,
We have two cars: a 1999 CR-V and my 1990 accord lx.
I pretty much got a new system (head unit and speakers) with no subwoofer. Installed everything, worked. Tested it and wasnt pleased with the bass. I know the crv has the bass im craving so i switched the speakers. Did that and still no bass, and the crv with the new speakers have even more bass! So im guessing its the car, do i need to insulate the hollow space around the speakers or something? Srry im a noobie when it comes to sound systems. Last thing, could it be the head unit? Im postive that a $150+ head unit is better then a tape unit from the crv.
    Thanks!

your speakers may be out of phase. Flip the pos and neg wires on ONE speaker and see what that does.

most aftermarket speakers never fit flush with factory brackets/mounts, and will have a gap or space that will allow air through, therfore loosing effectiveness of the bass of the speakers, my sugjestion is to run a subwoofer and put a highpass filter on the interior speakers. that way your subwoofer will give you clean sounding bass, and your speakers will give you clean sounding mids and highs

The cb7 SUCKS for bass response without a subwoofer. Even a small tube in the trunk will make a difference.

Not necessarily - basically "You get what you pay for."

Start with a good head unit. If it pumps out an adequate system and has customizable equalizer options, the sound is gonna be a lot better right away.

Sure... turn down bass, but then better speakers, will get better sound. Paper speakers are gonna sound BAD! Upgrade to something with laminate or polypropylene! no real need for a sub -- it's not for everyone. it's just extra weight for me.

one of the major differences between the car is the acoustics. For example, I had an infinity 12 in my Honda that made too much bass for me so I gave it to a friend who put it in his ford escape. In there the bass was perfect, giving you that tingling in your throat but not drowning out the lyrics of the song.

In our tinny little accord, the sound waves bounce off all funny and are absorbed by the various surface (deck, back seat, your leg in front of speaker). In a crv, the sound travels more freely so bass notes can resonate at the right frequency and sound really good even on weaker speakers.

All that is just a possibility why your speakers don't sound right. It's either that, or you messed something up. If the reason I gave is right, then amplify/crossover your speakers and tune them for the desired amount of bass.
Being normal is probably the lamest thing you can try to be

Try telling these guys. I'm sure they only won competitions with paper speakers by bribing the judges.

Sonikaccord knows what he's talking about with audio stuff. The speakers may be out of phase.

Sunny_TK may or may not have a point. I'm not sure what kinda speakers you have. Try some wooden or foam baffles behind the speaker to make an airtight seal if there isn't one and you'll be golden.

Failing that, your initial conclusion about deadening the doors is probably correct.

As for the bass response sucking without a subwoofer... I'll bet I got better quality bass in my cb7 with front components properly installed than many members do with subs. I'm sure Sonik could do the same too.

Which speakers do you have that are paper? I wouldn't mind hearing them but I'm afraid you're too far away I'll be picking up those legatias soon.

L4s. My QSD midbass already works well enough that I don't need to add 8s up front.
