ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Rear speaker deck removal and costomization

Don't know if this should be in the audio threads or the appearance section, but this would more pertain to audio since that's what I want to customize it to.

    ANYWAY......

How do I take the rear deck out?

I'd like to put some 8's in it.

You would have to cut it. Best bet is to throw some 3/4" mdf on top and bolt it down to the metal then seal up the outsides. Or you could just mount the subs under the existing speaker holes. It's easier and alot less work. Cut a nice baffle and mount it under each hole and mount the speaker to the baffle(spacer).

i would find someone or yourself to build a custom fiberglass molding that is similar to your rear speaker mounts. but have it built to fit your 8's. use existing holes that your old speaker mounts went into. have it tilt a little towards the rear window so you have the bass to bounce off of. i saw this setup in a acura legend. i thought of doing it myself for my ride but i like the big bumps in my trunk.

Would there be a way to cut out the rear deck and still leave enough support for MDF board?

And also about the two support rods for the trunk lid. Could they be removed without causing damage or anything?

Don't cut the deck at all. Mount the board under the deck and mount the speakers under the board using the existing speaker holes to vent to the cabin.

The torsion rods? If you get rid of them your trunk won't have any spring. and you'll have to hold it up with a stick or something

But won't i need to get rid of the metal that would be blocking me from putting two 8's in?

Nevermind, I see why I'm confused.

I'm not just talking about replacing the speakers with 8's...

I'm talking about having my 6x9's where they usually go and putting two 8's in the middle.... so 4 speakers total in the rear deck.

Sounds a lil ghetto imo. Take their suggestions. Add to your car. Dont cut away

To remove the rear deck - Rip it out.
I had very little luck removing it in one piece, you can try, but I doubt your luck after 20+years.

It's not ghetto. It's an IB install. It's been done alot and with larger speakers.
If you're going to add 2 subs to the rear deck then you'll have to make holes in the metal. Might as well do 4 8's too and scrap the 6x9's. You'll have to get struts for your trunk cause you'll be getting rid of the spring.
Looking at that mdf board, it looks like you can get away with 4 10's Speaking of mdf, you'll have to make one of those too. Along with some deadener for the rattles

                      4 8's would be cool

Trunk struts... where would I find those?
