ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Yes I agree the Walmart ones are horrible. We have a company out here call Cartoys, they sell nice kits, usually a little more expensive but a lot better built than the Walmart ones.
I have had a few buddies go to bestbuy and pick up a kit there. You could try that. I would assume they are made better than Walmart's, thats for sure.
But your cheapest bet would be a junkyard find, however if your time is worth anything I would consider just buying one at a store, unless you have to go to the junkyard for other things, then pick one up while you are there.

Bestbuy is normally where I go.. went to two, and they didn't have any... Install bays around here in Virginia are such a joke.. filthy, shit everywhere, bunch of kids who are clueless as to what I'm asking for... Makes me miss circuit city... With no competition bestbuy has gone to shit, and prices have gone up. Ima check out bestbuy online and see what they have.. Thanks!

        No problem man,

You could also check with your local autoparts store, a lot of the times I see the kits in there, however I cannot say if they are better or worse than the Walmart ones. I can imagine though that they could be on that same level of cheap clip together ones. But it would not hurt to check if you are out driving around.

I just purchased a kit from Metra for a double-din application. This brand is sold in Best Buy, I believe, for single-din applications as well. I have not yet installed my new head unit, but the kit's plastic quality appears to be as good as that of the OEM bracket. I'll update this post when I get the installation done this weekend.

I have had great success with the kits from cartoys in regards to multiple cars. They also have the adapter harness available, and you should be able to get both for under $40 from them. If your going to order online for anything, maybe you should check out what crutchfield has available.

I think that is all in your guy's heads. All that shit is the same, a hunk of thin plastic with a pocket. Be careful and it'll be alright, fuck around and it will break. I've bought many kits from different places and its all the same to me. There isn't really much to them and like I said, be careful installing it and it won't matter where u buy it from because all of them look the same and do the same shit and serve the same purpose.

there are many brands out there for kits such as Ai, best kits, scoshe, and metra. they all have there pros and cons. you want a nice clean look but non of them will do that, or so it seems. personaly i have metra for my 91 accord. if you have the time you can make it yourself out of a abs plastic sheet or maybe even fiberglass and then you will definelty get the look YOU wish for.

A third bestbuy, has in stock, a metra kit. It has the pocket I was looking for, grooves in sides to get in tight and secure, holds up radio well too... I'm gonna have to add some depth to the back to get the bottom to sit flush and not use the exact clips it wants but its gonna work out good! I'll post a pic when finished..
