ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    h22 vs b18

i was wondering what would win. if you got an h22 and b18c both fully built identically for n/a set-up simallar parts and in the same car say 93 hatch with 2 drivers at same levels. im just curious which engine would out do the other.

i would say H, but then again, H is heavier than the B. and if both are tuned right.

but mainly it all depends on the driver, each driver is different no matter if they're on the same level.

      hummmmmmmm

To many variables. It would come down to driver, gear ratios, and especially traction. I'm willing to bet the H22 with its .4 tens of a liter advantage, has a broader torque/ power curve over the smaller B. And if you have a 200 hp h22, and a 200 hp b18, the H would have more tactical, usable power- especially in a "heavy" car like our cb7's. I do admit though, that I am not sure about the weight deficit the H has over the b series- and just maybe that alone might have negative effects on handling and balance if were talking civics. Then again, Im not sure on those exact numbers. Torque masks weight really well though, ask anyone with a full size dodge , Chevy or ford diesel.

In a civic body. The b18c will win all the time. I know from experience from track times.

I dunno dude... What if it's an H2B swap?... Those bitches are badass... I'd bet the H would win with the B16 or Gsr tranny

H series are nice in eg civics. But its too slow. He never said anything about a B16.

It was h22 vs b18c. If he is reffering to teg type r motor then the h series have no chance. Even if it was a type s h22a.

                    I dont know guys.....

We would have to look at the chassis the motors are going in, and look at dyno charts- all hp is not good hp.....its how much tactical, hp you can make use of. for instance, I bet a stock f22a6 in a cb7 would beat a 180 hp gsxr 1000 motor in a cb7. Why? because of the power curve, and where the power is available. Now in terms of a civic, b18 my be better suited for overall performance on a track, but what if the civics in questions were automatics? I bet the H22 would shine then, what if the civic had 4 fats dudes in it? i bet the H22 would shine then as well. but are we drag racing? or auto crossing? is 20 pounds in the front of a civic going to murder its handing characteristics? or would the torque the H has help a driver get better lap times? theres ALOT to consider here....lol

ya aint that the truth..putting a B series in a cb would just be stupid...a h22 cb vs any hatch with a b18....idk..i'd say hatch cause they'r f'n lite!!

B doesn't make power till high rpms, low torque

H has better torque and better powerband.
                        wat?

Vehicle weight being equal, if you could build that Type-R motor until it made another 20 hp and 30 lb/ft of torque, it would be as fast as a Stock Type-S motor, but it would still have to wait until way later rpms than the H to make the same power. The B would feel faster as long as the H is not beside you, since it goes from no torque to hi horsepower, it has a steep power curve, whereas the H has way more torque at an earlier rpm.
Speed as I understand it, aside from traction and gearing differences, mainly comes down to the Power to Weight ratio. A Stock Type-S motor in a CRX can run a 12.9 or better. However, my built 2750 lb Prelude is only as fast as my bro's basically stock GSR CRX, since he barely weighs 2100 lbs. H series torque really starts to show in 3rd and 4th gear. In my experience, the longer a similarly paced H and B race, the more chance the H will begin to pull. Engine weight is not an issue, and some people who've had both in small cars actually think handling is better with the extra 35 pounds or so- check out explicitspeedperformance.net .

                          Another 2 cents, fwiw.

Doesn't quite work like that. During a race the engine will be fairly close to its peak torque at all times, so whether its peak torque is lower or higher is irrelevent. Its a proven fact that when you have two identical motors, but different peak torques, the car with the HIGHER peak torque always accelerates faster because it can take better advantage of gearing.

It scares me how many people dont understand the implications of "making power way higher in the RPMs bro!"

Ever wonder why an F1 car has a 2.4L V8, makes 200 ft/lbs of torque, 750 horsepower and makes peak torque well above 17,000RPMs?

with that said, the H22 could tow a boat better than a b18, without a doubt.

                              True too.
But in this case the motors are not identical, nor the power outputs. Peak torque at higher rpm is better but less total torque is not a good idea when racing someone with a car of the same weight, since horsepower is a measurement of torque. Who wins between a higher torque peak vs a higher amount of torque depends on how much, what rpm, and gearing.
There are a lot of variables to the original question since the term "fully built" is always custom and (at least) I don't have numbers to say what is possible. I would assume the larger motor would still make more power on some level. If all that was done, you'd want to use the same B-series transmission on each. At that point I could care less who wins, just let me watch!
