Ok so I am turning 21 next month on june 23. And in July I am getting a Big settlement check. (maybe 5 Grand or more not sure yet) And I was planning to get a 150cc Scooter to cruise around. But heres the thing.. They are around 1500-2000 new. But if I was to get it I will only use it for only 2 or three months (June July August) since I live in NY with seasonal changes n stuff... So my question is should I get the scooter? Or use my money for something else.. Honestly I was thinking about getting some sexy ass rims for the CB9 or something.. Its just now that I think about it its like do I really wanna spend 2000 on a scooter to use for 2 months...

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

think about how much gas you can buy with $2000.
in 2-3 months a year driving the scooter you wouldn't make that money back very quickly.
also, where I am from (MA) scooters with an engine larger than 50cc have to be registered as a motorcycle, therefore insured as a motorcycle, and require a motorcycle license. I am unsure of the laws in NY.

Over here I believe the limit is 150cc. Now that I am really taking thought into I think it would not be a good investment.. Cuz using it for only 2 months is really not worth it.. If I lived in a area where the weather is warm all the time then it would be nice to have. If I come across a good deal for a used one then its a different story. .

In NJ, the laws are about the same. My friend has a 150cc "Tank" scooter (basically a Chinese knockoff Honda... apparently any parts that break can be replaced with Honda parts... so in a year or two, it'll end up being all Honda!
) He had to get a motorcycle license to drive it, and it is insured as a motorcycle. Still cheap, though... even in NJ (insurance prices make us all fart a little quieter in NJ!)
I'd say pick up a used scooter, if that's what you want. Or even a small motorcycle, like a Honda Rebel (or comparable 250cc bike... those can go on the highway, though I wouldn't risk it myself!) Why drop big bucks for new, when you can probably find something decent used. Especially scooters. People often buy them thinking they'll use them more than they do, and end up dumping them cheap. If you're only riding it around town 2-3 months out of the year, you won't be putting TOO much wear on it. Hell, why not a moped? As long as you don't mind looking like a dork...
Honestly, though... I'd say save the cash, or use it for something a bit less frivolous than a scooter or rims. 5k isn't really THAT much, but hell... it's a nice down-payment on a new car, or a new-start fund for an apartment (security deposit, furnishings, etc... assuming you're still living at home like I was at 21...) It's also nice just to have a chunk of money in savings in this crap economy, since you never know when you could find yourself out of a job and in need of cash! Toss it in a high-yield CD and make some money just for having 5 grand.

@ Deev,
at moped joke. Now that I had some time to think about and talking to a few friends, They all agree. Its really not worth spending 2 grand using it for just 2 months out the year. Id rather save the money or used some of it for my CB9 or get a another car to mess around with . I really don't know how much I am getting i just know its alot. maybe more than 5 grand. Who knows. But I don't live with my parents. I left the house at 18 been on my own since. Right now I do a roommate type of thing on a spacious 2 bed room apartment with my older brother and his girl.
