ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    needing to vent...

ok i've got a friend who's very cheap when it comes to car care. he just replaced his car battery because "autozone" told him it had a bad cell so that's why it won't start his car. that was maybe 3 weeks ago even when choosing batteries, he chose the cheapest one with the least amount of cold cranking amps knowing it's winter time.

he's really paranoid about his car failing on him and all that jazz. like who isn't? anyways he keeps wanting me to check his battery to see what condition it's in and i keep asking him the basic questions. "are your lights dim, are you having a hard time starting in the moring. does your car stall when you turn on anything electrical? "

I mean i've checked his new battery so many times that i've noticed the nuts on the battery cables are starting to get rounded. i've told him to replace those too but once again he's too cheap to do it.

i might add, he's WAYYYYYYY overdue for an oil change. like 8 months over due. i remind him everytime i do mine, every 3 months or 3k miles.
I feel really bad for that Nissan Sentra because i'm sure it was a really good car until he bought it... I can't wait till he's on the highway some day and his temp gauge just goes nuts. that will teach him a lesson in not being cheap in car care.

He's texting me right now asking to check his battery again. i replied back with "replace your alternator"

Sounds more like your mother than a friend. Anyway if it really bothers you than tell Betty to check her own battery.
Take that freek show to the park, maybe the squirrels will care.

I had a similar experience, only it wasn't my friend but more along the lines of a friend's friend. He had me ghetto rig everything for him in the cheapest way possible. His car was like 20% zip ties and 20% duct tape. His car died on him because of a snapped timing belt, I told him to change it but as he said, "it wasn't broken so it doesn't need replacing."

That sounds like a kid around here that i help out. He has my old cb7 and the body is all rotted to hell and the front end is ready to fall out of it. Anyway his motor blew up and he decided that we were going to re-ring his old block that came in the car. When i got to his house, he had the crank pulled out of the block and all the bearings were in a bag marked J1 J2 J3 etc... Well he didn't mark the top and bottom, and the thrust washers were... well mixed up too. so he ordered a set of bearings. (and for the record you don't need to pull the crank to re-ring a F22) Then he had me take all the best parts from the block with the spun bearings and the block with now discovered bad pistons due to all the ring grooves were cracked. One cylinder had a good piston so he wanted to use that one on the "good motor" and the other three from the other motor that just blew up in his car. Well the reason he didn't want to use all four is because I talked him out of using it due to the fact that the rod was blue. I hate helping him out but for some reason he just doesn't take anything i say into his brain. But he always asks me for help when something is wrong with his car.

Well not even 1000 miles since the motor was put together he is revving it constantly to 6500 and the motor is knocking. I wasted my time putting that engine together but for some reason i keep helping him out.

Sorry for thread jacking but i needed to vent too.

dood it's all good. by all means vent.

i avoid reading his texts sometimes and just procede to delete them that way i can say i never got it but now he's resending everything if i ignore him too long.

i think i'm going to set him down and tell him straight up that i'm not his mechanic and i'm not touching his car anymore.

Mine is I'll supervise them working on their own car, as in I'll just make sure they don't fuck something up. I sure as hell won't do it for them without some green coming back.

If I was you, I'd just start charging. $5-$10 everytime you do it, and either you'll get rich fast or he'll stop asking so often.
