ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    overheating

so my car has been overheating for a while now. i tried all sorts of things. i bled the system many times, check the coolant levels, made sure the thermostat was installed correctly and heat it up to make sure it opens, etc. however, when my engine warms up, pressure builds up in the lower radiator hose. the lower hose remains fairly cold, but the upper one gets really hot. when the car is all warmed up and i drive it around a bit, usually the pressure becomes so great that the radiator cap begins to leak.

what i want to know is what else could i look into to find the solution. if worse comes to worse, i may just pull the engine and start from the inside.
possible water pump failure? i am open to all suggestions.

have you tried a new radiator cap?

If that's bad, then it is not opening up to draw extra coolant from your over flow resevoir.

Or is your over flow resevoir empty?

i tried 2 brand new caps. seems to me that the coolant overflows the reservoir tank.
what i really want to know is what could be causing the pressure in the lower radiator hose to be so great. i tested the thermostat by boiling it in a pot, but it seems like its not opening up when its in the thermostat housing.

it might opens too late or too earily. It has to open exactly when it has to.
Did you check your liquid level? maybe it's time to change it.
            Excuse my language.

where did you buy your thermostat from? if you got it from an autoparts store you might have gotten the high heat temp thermo.

                  1) Did you measure the temp the Tstat opened when boiled? Water boils at 212 deg F, that is higher than the 170-180 deg F your tstat will open it, so you need to verify when it opens within this range and if it that is normal.

                  2) I would also verify your water pump vane is turning and that it has not become loose and does not turn under load. My mechanic friend said he's seen this happen on other cars, but it could happen on these, perhaps.

                  3) There is the potential that something bad is going on in your motor. How does the oil look? Is it dark, smell burnt, burns through oil quickly?

check the hoses and radiator for holes, water pump and waterneck for bad seals. if you don't see anything, fill it up and start it and look for steam under pressure

x2, with the thermostat not opening you shouldn't any pressure in the lower hose at all. i went through it with my f22 not long before my h22 swap. my upper radiator hose actually started to bulge from excessive pressure. if you've driven it for more than a week like that, i would go ahead and replace the upper hose as a precaution.
